...what am I doing wrong Texags? I've tried everything short of dropping down some money for a lesson (which I'm not entirely keen on). Help a brotha out.

Longer club, club is probably getting stuck behind you and you are clearing before the club gets back to square at impact.

I've tried moving the ball way up in my stance (as in, even with my left foot if not in front), as well as taking my right foot and moving it backwards a tad. Nothing works. Should I look into a shorter driver?

start the club down with your arms first (drop the club) then uncoil. Again this is just a idea, no idea what is causing your issue.

Is your grip correct? Do you have a death grip on it? This will stop the club head from squaring up and can cause your slice.

If you're grip is good, then take a look at this video. Someone posted it here before, and it helped eliminate my slice.

sounds like you've done everything but what you need to actually do... get a 30 min lesson. no one can tell you what to do from here unfortunately. I sometimes get the "ultra fade" on the driver as well late in the round despite having a nice small consistent fade on all irons. Usually when i don't complete backswing later in round and/or legs/hips get tired and stop firing through and i'm over the top on the driver. But it can also easily be as described above when your lower gets out in front of your arms and you are late to the ball, block/slice to the right, which is more likely if you are blocking and slicing to the right, whereas the over the top slice is usually for me more of a straight to pull slice.

you are probably clearing your hips too early... and that could be b/c your taking a longer backswing, and so your arms can't catch back up. You can try starting your downswing with your arms (rather than your hips)... or try taking a shorter backswing to try to get your timing down.

club speed? I did the same thing.

Try to keep your backswing nice and slow, but try to swing a little quicker and get your hips around faster.

Irons are a hell of a lot more difficult to slice than a driver because of the loft(s).

You're not going to like this, but I would suggest hitting a 3W until you're extremely confident with it. The increased loft will cut down on your slices and you will end up hitting it farther. Then over time the transition back to the driver should be easier (if you even go back to it).

FPS Doug....do you yell "BOOM! HEADSHOT!" everytime you use your driver? This might be the cause....

had same issue, on set up, put the ball on left inside ankle, club face square but on outside third, slight step back with right foot. Slow backswing, and have a good tempo coming back, finish with chest facing target. I have to feel like I have to reach to hit the sweet spot of the club face. I also don't try to kill it just make good contact.

i also have learned to play my fade by starting on the far right side of the tee box and aiming at a target on the far left fairway

FPS Doug - I'm still struggling with the same issue - one thing i realized in my quest for the straight drive was that only one thing causes a slice: and open clubface at impact... unfortunately, there are probably no less than 50 things that can cause you to open the clubface prior to impact - however, the likely cause is swinging the club over the top - and you'll need to work on changing the way you feel the swing path... I saw this article a couple of months ago, and figured, "well, nothing else has worked."

Went to the range with a bucket, and did this drill... and within minutes was hitting straight and somewhat left. on the range whenever i start hitting right again, i do a few reps of this drill to straighten it back out. Hope it helps you...

this thread makes me laugh at the recognition that there are so many things that can go wrong with a golf swing.

To add one more log to the pyre, another thing is to watch the top of your backswing. If you keep your club parallel to the horizon at the top and your left arm stays straight, you'll be in good shape to come around on it. I've found that on my worst shots, I'm winding up too much by bending my left elbow at the top to compensate for not being able to turn my shoulders as much. As a result, my club dips below parallel and when I start down, my hands are too far behind the ball.

**caveat** I'm terrible at golf.

Do you have a regular or stiff shaft driver...

If you believe you have a good swing, my guess is you have a regular shaft. Thus the club head is just open on impact and simply not catching up to the swing speed.

Other wise start flatening your swing plane and move the ball left or right in your stance till it straightens out or starts drawing.

But as stated, it could be one of a thousand things...

start from the beginning. sometimes it can be as simple as ball placement at your address.

This is a good thought, though I think a shaft that is too flexy will also yield the occasional, unwieldy hook. I had a huge problem with my reg flex driver that I had received as a gift and was playing off the rack. I went and got my swing speed measured and was topping out at 120! Suffice it to say that a transition to a stiff flex has helped me tighten things up considerably.

Hard to guess at what your problem is since there are obviously so many possibilities, but when I get into a funk I'm the same way. The most recent and effective fix I've made to correct this was to concentrate on my left wrist on the backswing. It should be flat all the way back, but I sometimes tend to cup it with my palm up, causing a slice downswing. When I flatten my wrist I hit it straight or even with a little draw.

Just my personal experience...I had issue with properly shifting my weight to the back leg on the backswing. A lot of my weight was still on front leg which caused a steeper backswing/downswing. Since you can somewhat get away with a steep downswing with your irons, on the driver, it'll cause big slices.

Draw an X over the ball. Hit the inside quadrant of the ball and drive legs out to right center field and keep rt elbow tucked close to the waist as you turn and strike the ball. NO SLICE.
