How much further should you hit your driver than your 3 wood if both are hit correctly?

Thanks for the precise response.

it goes along with the precise question

what I mean, is...

there are too many variables. swing speeds, type of ball, club angles (9 degree driver? 10.5 degree?), etc.

it's like asking how far should you hit a 7 iron.

.....and everyone knows that answer!

But to give you an idea, I average around 270~ off the tee, but if I hit it right I get it out to 290-300 on better days. As for 3 wood, I hit anywhere 230-260 off the tee. 220-240 off the deck(more if the wind is @ my back)

From an instruction book I have they give the following averages for driver, but understand its an average and can vary, as we all know some high handicappers who smash the ball and some Low-handicappers who are finesse and don't smoke it very far.:

High-handicapper=205-220
Mid-handicapper=220-235
Low-handicapper=230-250
Player=250+

But, you'll probably get a lot of flack for a question like that, but like he said above there are too many factors to take into consideration. Outside of the club variables there is turf conditions, wind, heat, downhill/uphill, etc that you can't necessarily calculate.

Having trouble hitting the driver these days and I've been hitting my 3 wood in the 240-245 range when I hit it well. How far should I expect to hit my driver when I begin hitting it better?

I expect the difference to be much greater than the difference between irons. Should I expect a 30 yard improvement?

That's more along the lines of what I was looking for.

Thanks.

Me, probably about 45-50 yards. But I play a "strong" 4w at 16*.

Probably 50... But a well struck 3 wood is a rarity for me so it's usually more like a 150 yard difference in normal circumstances.

50 yards here too.

Before my driver cracked I was getting a sold 50 yard difference.

Better start working on the 3-wood though now that I'm driverless!

Driver 290, strong 3w 270.

Or so.

Roughly the same for me too. Leaves a big gap between a 225ish 3 iron and a 3 wood that I've been thinking I need to fill. Still working on being able to hit a hybrid worth a sheet.

Same here...I won an Adams hybrid 3 iron at a tourney almost 3 years ago, and I never carried it until this summer, when I decided I should probably try and use it. It's awesome when I hit it right, but that's few and far between these days. Need to get that thing squared away.

Driver- 325-330
3 wood- 295-300

I play a 15* 3-wood, but would like to find a 14*.

I use a 13.5 degree 3 wood, I hit it about 255-260 off the deck.

I like using the stronger 3 wood because it seems like I have more shots where I need max distance than about 240, which is where a 16 degree would put me. Long par 5's and tight par 4's. I can still tone down the 3 wood and hit a high cut around the 240 ish mark if I want. I also have a high ball flight so the 13.5 keeps it lower.

I just bought an Adams pro black hybrid 16 degree so I think that will help my 215/220 (3 iron) - 255/260 (3 wood).

I play 4w 260 and 3i 245. Never tried hybrid/rescue/whatever, although I guess my 4w fills that purpose.

Driver 9 degree - 290
3wood - 260

To be honest though I hardly ever hit the driver. The 3wood is very consistent and I can shape it. It's an old tight lies II 15 degree. I also play a 2 iron. It's around 240-245. But most of the time I'll just choke down on the 3 wood and try a high cut.
