I've been told this course is not going to be in GREAT shape nor is it super difficult.  But ~10 years ago - you could bring your own beer, so that is an unlikely bonus as well.

Well. As bad as the course can be scrambles out there tend to still be fun. The dam broke three summers ago and their lake friggin emptied. I believe the city is responsible for repair/etc but don't have the money, or spent it else where. The greens aren't bad considering how little they get to water them. It definitely is not your 'prim and proper' country club. Play in a tank top and get hammered. And you should be good.

Glad to see a thread on Battle lakes, a couple of hours ago I signed up for a Saturday tee time. Hopefully I don't have the shanks, if I do, then I'll have to enjoy the scenery (birdie girls).

Goat pasture. And those girls aren't anything you want to mess with.

I, along with Shaynew's brother, refuse to play there anymore. It is a pasture.

well too bad for you the next closest course is 20 miles down the road. i guess its just sentimental to me since i played there a bajillion times in school.

and my brother would rather not play than play there...which is a terrible philosophy.

You've probably played big cedar, is it worth the drive and the higher prices?

This a tournament where we usually drink and then have about ten guys finish up on the last few holes. We aren't looking for Augusta Pines and we're a little limited because we are staying in Bremond.

It was kind of a last minute thing, Twin Rivers and Cottonwood were booked and not all the guys in my group are members at Ridgewood.

Saw ridgewood the other day for the first time. Any way a coach from Groesbeck can get on there and how much it would cost? That looks like a great course

Should have contacted Marlin CC and had your tourney out there. Even at 9 holes, much better than Battle Lake goat and sheep pasture.

Sure, Battle Lake isn't a nicely manicured country club but in the country outside the metropolis of Mart TX what do you expect. It's a fun course with alot of good holes. Alot of history to Battle Lake as well. It was built around 1920 as the 1st course in McLennan county and started as a 9 holer with sand greens. The original layout was what is now holes 1,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,18.

Played there a couple years ago, had a blast. However, the girls were not as advertised, very rough

Cstrickland things have changed. After playing there last weekend all 6 girls I saw were 7's on up. Ok course, cheap beers and good looking girls.

I want to say it was number 8? A straight par 4 that played about 320. I haven't been out there since that day so I'm not quite sure.

Well, we had a great weekend in spite of the Battle Lakes. What a hole bit the Birdie Girls exceeded expectations. There wasn't a blade of grass on that course alive outside of the greens. Awful.
