Anyone played there before? I'm playing next week with some future employers, and I'm a broke college kid who rarely plays nice courses so I'm pretty excited!

Classic older member's course. Not incredibly long, but in great shape.
If you normally play public links like myself, you'll definitely enjoy yourself

IMO, the best all-around Country Club in the Houston area (indoor & outdoor pool, ton's of indoor and outdoor tennis courts, two 18-hole golf courses, 6-10 racquetball courts, full size cardio and weights area, and an indoor basketball court). Nice 19th hole area for golfers, as well as a new bar that's been put in during the last 5 years. Good dining as well.

Spent many, many, many hours there growing up.

I prefer the Pecan Course to the Cypress Course.

Played Sweetwater in a few highschool tournaments way back and I remember there clubhouse was far and away better than most of the clubs I had been to so I can imagine if they kept renovating like the last post mentions it would be a great place.

It has a bajillion members and great facilities, but the courses are not in the Top 3 in the Sugar Land area.

I'm interested to see what you put in the top three in the SL area.

Shadow Hawk (played 3-4 times, but not in 2 years) and Houstonian (played there yesterday) are both really nice, but membership is so small its very, very difficult to find a way on (esp. SH). I actually prefer Sweetwater.

Thanks guys. I also have work off tomorrow so I'm going to play somewhere really crappy. Any suggestions?

Why does a small membership make it hard to get on? Wouldn't that make it less busy?

I know 1 member at SH, 2 members at Houstonian, and about 10 members at Sweetwater.

That makes for a higher chance that I'll get on at SW.

Have a buddy that joined SW in Sept. last year and I've been able to play each course so far.

I really like the place, I like the feel of Ft. Bend golf (old oak/pecans with moss, etc.).

The facilities are really nice.

But, my buddy has been out to play with me at Kingwood a couple times in the last couple of months and tells me that the drought is really hitting SW hard. He raves about the condidtion of my Kingwood courses in comparison.

That's temporary though.

I've been a member at Sweetwater since '03 and they have a tough time keeping the course in great shape because like someone else said, there are a ton of members. So both courses get a bunch of play.

they have just started making 2 holes on each nine, cart path only, and that has helped.

One really good thing about SW, is even though it gets a bunch of play, I almost never play a round that takes more than 4 hours.

And of course, the other non golfing facilities are excellent.

I just played Sweetwater Pecan course this morning and course was in great shape.
We played as a 5some and finished in just under 4 hours.

+1, even though I've never played Shadow Hawk (hard to dispute when it's hosting the US Mid am in a month or so).
have played a lot of golf at SWCC and Riverbend over the years and its no contest on a pure golf comparison. I hate to use the term to describe a golf course, but the courses at SWCC are just kind of boring IMO. Riverbend is prettier, more challenging, and a lot of fun to play.

I like Riverbend as well. One of my good buddies is a member out there. It's always in real good shape, even right now. It has never been backed up whenever I've played it either.

Added bonus is the chance at a Bucky Richardson sighting at the bar in the clubhouse afterwards. Have seen him in there a few times and he's a cool mofo to talk to.
