in regards to the Srixon Z Star, I noticed it tends to get eaten up a bit more with wedges than a pro V. I may have just had a bad day striking the ball. I will try it again today.

F'n weatherman made me cancel my 11:00 tee time, now I have to go back out and see when I can get on.

Gotta love hitting it 20 ft short of the pin and watching it backup to 40 ft.
This is called "Am Suck" - "Pro Suck" is when you hit it 10 ft past the pin and back it up to 2.

I'm kinda surprised you say that about the z star, Eric. Granted, yesterday was the only time I've played with it, but I thought it was much more durable than the prov's. I tear prov's to shreds, but the z star looked pretty good after 9 holes.

I was a ProV1 ***** for years until a couple of months ago. I would always try the latest and greatest from all the other makers and always go back to Titleist. The I tried the Taylor Made Penta. Amazing ball. Has a distinctly different feel than the other tour balls. Very soft and good distance. I have a few sleeves of ProV1's left but have switched to the Penta. You should all try it.

i've been using nike power distance soft for about the last month and i've been really impressed. i really like the feel of a soft ball, but lose too many to justify spending the money for pro v1's. for me they play about the same. i shoot around 90 and spin the ball very rarely. i bought 3 dozen nike pd soft's for less than a dozen pro v1's.

they still sell the titleist dt solo's at academy.

1. Nike One Tour D
2. Titleist ProV1x
3. Bridgestone Tour B330-RX

In the above order of preference.

Anyone ever have a ball that was perfect for them only to have the company quit making them?

I used love the old Callaway Red (the one before they went with the hex dimples).

Has anyone gone to a ball fitting? Are they BS?

The TM Penta has made a believer out of me. I was a ProV1 guy all the way. It always irked me the way a nicely struck wedge would rip apart the cover of a ProV. They're too expensive to replace every hole, so I just played the scuffed up ball until there were no more flat parts on it.

A buddy of mine let me borrow a Penta that I played for 38 holes or so. It lasted the duration with only minimal scuffing until I put a crap swing on a tee ball and lost one in the left gunch. As an earlier poster mentioned, that ball feels incredible. I think I may have to try the high performance Srixon ball... it gets interesting reviews as well.
