We saw lots of game near Tarpley, but no one fired a shot. It was too warm to try to get anything to the processor quick enough. Drank, ate, and BS'ed a lot though. Watched some football. It was a good weekend to watch football.

Took my 5 year old hunting for the first time. He did much better than I expected. I only had one morning to hunt so I knocked down a spike(yes pitiful). But to a 5 year old, he loved every minute of it. It was a great father-son moment.

did bambi lay down and die towards the end? i can't remember, it's been a while.

We killed a few hogs Sat. morning, but it got to 103 in the afternoon so in the evening we shot doves over a tank instead of deer hunting. Pretty hot shooting for about half an hour and my lab had a blast retrieving. At one point she was carrying 3 doves at once.

Yesterday it was almost 80 with 90% humidity and heavy fog when I got up so I slept in.

Would agree with everything in your original post but this last part, Dub.

My girls and I saw lots of nice deer in Comanche County, but, because of the hot weather, we decided not to shoot anything unless it was a monster buck - one better than the mounts we already have hanging at the house. Saw one that might've fallen into that category, but he was chasing a doe and couldn't get a decent view to confirm his rack size.

Lot's of good food and drinkin', though. Sitting around at night, drinking bloody mary's and shooting the bull is always fun.

There's a fascinating story today about a couple of Carolina cheerleaders making out in a bar restroom, and I know BI will be happy to hear that Huston Street won the AP Rookie of the Year.

I knocked down a 10 point from about 1100 yards out of the back of a moving vehicle with a walther ppk.

I killed a nubbin with 8 shots from a 300 wby mag at 40 yards. It field dressed at 35lbs.

60 lbs of meat was scattered40 yards behind the deer.

In a sense they would also qualify as "gunbearers", since they're both armed and dangerous. They'll not only drop a deer at a couple of hundred yards, they'll gut it and hang it.

Except for the fact they are now attending OU, they've been well educated.

God punished my indiscretions when I was younger by giving me two gorgeous daughters. I know what guys are thinking and what they want to do when they see them, 'cause I thought and tried the same things when I was around beautiful women when I was younger.

As my daughters matured, I lost the ability to enjoy a few beers at Hooters. I began waking up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night after having nightmares. I would dream that I was at Hooters drinking beer with my friends, while watching a comely waitress deliver a pitcher to a table across the room, anxiously waiting for her to turn around to see if she looked as good from the front as she did from the rear. But when she turned around, I was horrified to see it was one of my daughters.

I would sit up in bed shaking.

As they say, the chickens have come home to roost.

Hap - You should have shot the first couple of boys that came over and hung their bodies in the trees in front of your house. It discourages others.

At least you taught them how to defend themselves effectively.

Unfortunately for me, yes.

To add to my discomfort regarding this recurring nightmare, one of my daughters dressed up for a Halloween party last year as a Hooters waitress. She looked the part, which will undoubtedly cause this nightmare to continue.

Hap - Pay for them to go get their right to carry licenses and buy'em a couple 9mm's for their purses. It will all work out okay.

Up North of Kerrville, we roasted a hog all day Saturday and ate it for dinner. Not real tasty, but very tender. I did not even stay to shoot Sunday afternoon. Too damn hot.

When my girls were in high school, I often used the line from the movie "Clueless". I'd tell the boy "I've got a .45 and a shovel and they'll never find you. So, don't do anything to make me mad and you better have her home by midnight."

Hap - It was a lot easier with my son. I only had to worry about one pecker. With my daughter, I had to worry about all of'em in the world. Hang in there. This too shall pass.

I'm shocked. I think this is the first time a thread has gone completely off topic and went in a direction that was worth reading.

I am not excited about this upcoming part of my daughter's life. She is 21 months but someday guys are going to start looking at her too and it will be much sooner than I want I am sure.

Funny notanaggie, I almost mentioned how this thread went from great to crap.
