Texas-sized snubs won't slow A&M's McNeal

By Matt Hayes - SportingNews

The guy can't catch a break. He has been dealing with this -- what's that term athletes use? -- disrespect going on seven years now. Since back to high school, when his tall, skinny rival from the big city always got credit for doing more and showing more even though he really didn't.

All Reggie McNeal needs now is that annoying uncle at the annual family reunion, the one who always says you'll never be as good as ...

"It's always been Vince," McNeal says. "He's the one I'm always compared to."

Anyone who has followed Texas quarterback Vince Young and Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal knows there is no comparison. McNeal is a complete quarterback; Young is not. McNeal can make all the throws, and he can be dazzling and deflating when he scrambles away from pressure. Young is a tailback trapped in the body of a quarterback, the first guy you pick when choosing sides because God knows you don't want to tackle him.

McNeal has better career numbers -- and has been a more productive player -- than Young, yet Young is everybody's All-American. Young has every able-bodied sportswriter, television bobblehead and amateur analyst gawking over his quick feet and flashy moves. McNeal barely is known outside of College Station.

Young is a Heisman Trophy favorite, but he's not the best quarterback in his conference. Or even in his division.

"Reggie is a once-in-a-lifetime player," says A&M coach Dennis Franchione.

That's what all of the recruiting experts were saying about Young four years ago. The best player in the nation, the best quarterback in the nation, a consensus No. 1 recruit. And McNeal? They didn't even know where to slot him, and some gave him the catchall "athlete" label. Yet it was McNeal who led his small-town Lufkin High team to a Texas Class 5A state championship after Young's big-city Houston team lost in the semifinals -- with an opportunity to play Lufkin on the line.

"Would've been a great game," McNeal says.

It also would've been his only fair shot at competing against Young. The reality: Young is playing with a bazooka behind a talented Texas team. McNeal is playing with a pop gun. Young plays for one of the nation's top five teams, a media darling of a program that gets bigger with every season. McNeal plays for the Longhorns' stepsister, a once-proud program in the middle of a housecleaning under Franchione.

Yet, with all of that, one thing stands clear: Young is style; McNeal is substance.

"No one in this conference scares you more than Reggie McNeal," says Iowa State coach Dan McCarney.

A few weeks ago, Franchione sat at a table during the Big 12 media days and humbly said McNeal ran a legitimate 4.3 40 in summer timing. Not a pencil moved. A day later, when told of a teammate's alleged sub-4.3 40 time, Young defiantly responded, "Ain't nobody on this team faster than me." The assembled throng of media giggled and feverishly scribbled on notepads before launching into a series of Heisman Trophy questions.

Heisman Trophy.

What's that word again? Yeah, disrespect.

Moron,

That's easy when 9 players key on a tailback. Did you just fall off a People's Republik turnip truck? Because you don't know sh^t about this game.

This is going to be a great, great season of laughing at you nutless bovine imbeciles. For the first time since McDumbass got to The People's Republik there will be no running game to fall back on that could mask the poor gameday coaching, pathetic preparation regarding fundamentals and clueless strategic decisions of the coaching staff. There will be no fresh defense. There will be no burning clock. The pressure will be on Radio every new set of downs to complete passes deep, and it will be miserable Miserable MISERABLE.

Riiiight. Nobody respected Young's running ability. Riiiight. What was the story this time last year? There's no WRs like Roy Williams to bail out VY so when defenses key on the run, the whole offense will be shut down and the defense has a new coordinator so they'll suck...What a wreck our season turned out to be.

Why must you insult me? Does this somehow strenghten your argument?
anyways, like i said, MU saw that CB was hurt and i am sure that they didn't continue to key on him throughout the game when they saw his ineffectiveness.therefore keying on VY. also, when VY was running all over the place, don't you think they tried stopping him with a different game plan?

Zrile, I wouldn't worry about iron dipsh*t. His list of "analysis" is long and hilarious. For example, Priest Holmes is a scrub. Simms would get annihilated by a&m's D. His latest gem is trying to discredit the favorite for American League ROY in Huston Street. Hell, the ONLY reason he gives Benson any credit is because he's no longer at Texas. I wouldn't worry about. Iron dipsh*t wouldn't know a football if it hit him upside the head. Which I'm sure it did while he was a geek growing up.

Priest Holmes IS a scrub you stupid moron. ANYBODY can run behind the KC offensive line as his replacement proved last year.

I swear you nutless bovine imbeciles have never even SEEN a football. I have never known anybody to talk so much and know so little.

Some tidbits on the Priest
3 time pro-bowler
NFL record holder for single season TD total
Top 15 in Career rushing TDs
There's more but you obviously are too stupid to comprehend.
BTW, how do those stats stack up those of 'Lectric Leeland? BAAWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

A QUARTERBACK: BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I remember when the Ravens went to the Superbowl: he had ONE playoff yard.

If you knew anything about football, you would know that the Chiefs have a line anybody could run behind: as his replacement proved in 2004.

Own? Yeah right. If you you knew anything about football then you know that Priest was well on his way to his BEST year before the injury knocked him out at the halfway point. You're such a dipsh*t. Keep it up. BTW, would you care go post ANY aggie's NFL numbers compared to Priest? I thought so. BAWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAA!!!!

If nine people were keying on Benson during the Michigan, and two players were spying Young (a linebacker and a safety were on almost every play) that would mean noone was covering the wideouts at all. Of course this is stupid, and just shows how blinded you can be by your hatred of Texas.

Here's a perfect example: http://jcdenton.unmatchedmedia.com/UTvUM04-VinceYoung-Run3(DivX).avi
Keep your eye on #36, who was spying Vince on this play.

How about this play? http://jcdenton.unmatchedmedia.com/UTvUM04-VinceYoung-Run1(DivX).avi3rd and 16, obvious passing play... Michigan blitzes, sending 5 after Vince, with #58 spying Vince. The only player that even looks at Benson is the linebacker that tries to run over him. Tell me how that is nine players keying on the tailback.

Need another example? Let's look at the A&M game. http://www.jcdenton41.com/UTvATM04-VinceYoung-Run2(DivX).avi Justin Warren sure looks like he's keying on benson [/sarcasm]

He had 8 yards on 4 carries. 2 yards per carry.

For a comparison, see McNeal's rushing stats versus Texas in:

2003 - 9 carries for 0 yards

http://www.mackbrown-texasfootball.com/pages/stats/2003/UT12.HTM

of course he did much better in 2004--

2004 - 17 carries for 7 yards (.45 yards per carry)

Congradulations. You've found one 'know nothing reporter who probably never wore a jock'(to paraphrase you) to agree with your stance, even though he freely admits in the article that every other 'know nothing reporter' in the room and the majority of the free world disagree with him. Hope it helps you sleep at night after VY and Texas beat A&M and Reggie AGAIN, that someone outside of the Aggie faithful thinks Reggie is disrespected...

Maybe we disagree on what "spying the quarterback" is. When a player on defense stays directly in front of the quarterback, running parallel to the line of scrimmage to stay in front, and comes up to make the tackle if the quarterback tucks and runs, that's what I call "spying the quarterback." Look at the first play I linked and tell me what #36 is doing if he's not spying Vince?

Ok, this is coming from a Chiefs fan here. Everyone already knows that we have the best OL in the NFL. In fact you could put Orlando Pace in our backfield and he would rush for 1000 yards. We could easily put our entire line on the Pro Bowl right now and they would be set. Before last year I would've disagreed with BI but Derrick Blaylock and Larry Johnson both did outstanding this year behind our line. Against the Falcons, LJ had 4 rushing TDs in the second half alone. Priest did have many amazing seasons the past 3 years but have you ever seen a player randomly decide to become a superstar? Of course not. Even with Johnathen Ogden on his OL in Baltimore Preist wasn't very good. But with 3-4 Pro Bowl OL he was amazing. Anyone could. Hell, even Patch. Well, maybe I wouldn't go that far, but you catch my drift. And your Greg Hill smack is weak. The only player we had on that OL that is on the OL today is Will Shields. I was about 6-10 when he was playing for the Chiefs so maybe there were a few more but I'm not sure on that. I do remember one game where Greg Hill scored 3 TDs versus Green Bay and he did the Leambeau(sp?) Leap at Arrowhead. I think the year was 1997. I'm not sure.

I will break off the horns of all the wicked~Psalms 75:10
