I am moving from Austin to Garland...Trying to find a job, one that I like(if that is possible)...Does anyone know of any type of city league type sports somewhere in Dallas or where to find them?? I would like to play flag football and some softball......

If you're actually going to live in Garland, move to the north side, near Firewheel Golf Course or the Spring Park area. Spring Park is in Richardson schools which are better... If you're in North Garland, they have good sports programs, or check with the Plano and Richardson leagues as well.... Plano (while I hate the place) has a very good sports program (adults and kids).....

And if you play golf I recommend the Bridges course out at Firewheel. Also you need to check out Hubbard's for breakfast one morning (nice eye candy).

Moving without a job is always a wise decision.

Congrats on moving closer to the all mighty Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. Treat yourself and be spoiled with all we have to offer.

There is nothing in Austin..I have been trying..I have some opportunity in Dallas with a BS in Biology and Chemistry..There is more variety in a bigger city..I do not want to move to Houston cause there is to much family there...So i figured I would try something new...I will get a job, depends on how bad I want one and who I know...And i will be living of 30 near braodway..

Yes...I do not want to live in central dallas...But i like to have the lake right there and I get some good prices on apartments from the military there too.Garland does a offer called Home Town Heroes for military personal...There are alot of other reasons but by choice is correct..

I still laugh at how stupid I was that day. You got out of the lake dripping wet and asked for a blow dryer. I'm thinking "why does a guy at an informal party, with a military haircut, need to blow dry his hair?" It wasn't until you used it on the phone that I finally snapped. The beer really had slowed down my brain cells at that point.

As somebody who was sentenced to grow up in Garland, the people who gave the advice before are correct.
I grew up on Firewheel's Old Course and the area has really grown from there with new developments.
I-30 and Broadway ... you're playing with fire there.
I second playing the Bridges (27 holes), but the refurbished Lakes and the traditional Old course are nice at Firewheel, as well. Great thing about that area is there are about 10 quality courses within 15 minutes or so.

The FIRST thing you should do is go to Hubbard's. The quicker you realize it is all downhill in Garland after that, the better off you will be.

As for sports, the GASA isn't bad, but like most everything else (i.e. entertainment, commerce, etc), you probably have better options in Richardson and especially Plano.

Hope it goes well for you. And get ready for the insults. The only thing Garland is known for is LeAnn Rimes, David Koresh and being the inspiration for King of the Hill.
