Hate to agree with patch, but it is a surprisingly excellent movie.

The hotel he was staying in when he was supposedly with Durham, is literally 500 yards from my house.

Very good movie, and if a guy is going to tear up, there are some times where it could happen...not here..just saying

Now, I may have just been imagining it, but in the scene where they call Morris over to do the ABC interview, and they cut back to the guys in the batting cage, one made an age comment, and I could have sworn that the guy next to him, looked like Lance Berkman.

Supposedly the scenes at the Durham Bulls stadium were actually at the Dell Diamond. Berkman might have still been there in 2000? when they did shooting...but like I said, I could just be WAY off.

It was the Dell Diamond. Lance never played for the Express though.

He played AAA for New Orleans before getting called up in '99

The Express' inaugural season was in 2000 when they won the Texas League Championship.


The Rookie was shot almost primarily around the Round Rock and surrounding area. Their home in the movie is actually located in Hutto right across the street from the what is now the district school offices. It was kinda funny to watch it for me because as the movie went along, I was pointing out where they shot certain scenes from.

I have family in Big Lake. It's funny, the whole town kind of turned on him for "selling out" and "moving to Dallas". If you've ever been to Big Lake, I think you'd have to sign with good ol' Jimmy.

My uncle and him are actually friends, I guess he's one of the few sane people left in that s**thole.

Reagan County. In the movie I think it's called "Big Lake HS" but in real life, it's Reagan Co. HS.

Jim Morris goes to my church (in Dallas) - great man with a great story.

Great movie!

I know a lot of the film was shot in Thorndale. They spread sand all over the streets and *wham*.... west texas

Great man? As I understand it, he left his wife and kids not too long after his 15 minutes.

Sorry...but you don't leave your wife and kids and still be called a great man.

Too bad the entire feel good portion of the movie was crap. Morris got fired from his job for buying beer for his players. Since he knew he would never coach again, he took a flyer on the MLB.

When you think about it, that story is just a sad commentary on the dilution of pitching talent in baseball.

Yes, he had problems in the past and fully acknowledges that. He is now remarried (and did not leave his kids. Amazingly, it's possible to get divorced and still have your kids in your life).
