When shooting sporting clays what type of choke for a 12 gauge shotgun is recomended? I have a Remington and they advertise a skeet choke but say nothing about sporting clays. My concern is that skeet shooting is a little closer than sporting clays and the choke may not be the best to use. Anyone know what is best to use?

A good sporting clay range is going to require you to use cylinder, skeet, modified, full & sometimes extra full by the time you shoot 100 rounds. Having said that you can do pretty good with a modified. Some set ups are not condusive to a single barrel shotgun...but still fun.

Unless you're REALLY into it, meaning competition, you can usually get by with an IC. If you start competing then you'll need to carry a modified, IC and full depending on the station.

If you shoot at any ranges that have that baastaard high flying pair, the targets will be laughing their ass off at you if you go at 'em with an IC. On the other hand, most ranges have that deek smokin' rab that bounces all over the place as it runs along the ground and would be tough to hit with a daisy cutter.

Bottom line....depends on the range. It almost seems that most sporting clay range owners are twisted and sinister and like to screw with your head.

The right gear can help a lot but over the years it's become apparent to me that shooting is mostly in the mind. I went to a friendly informal competition one day and as my buddy and I were approaching the skeet range I heard this popcorn sound and realized a contestant was shooting a .410. Told my buddy we were gonna kick this guy's tail and he responded "I don't think so, dumbass....if he's shooting a .410 it means he's damn good." Turns out the guy could almost slay 'em blindfolded.

on August 6th I will shoot in a little charity tournament out at the American Shooting Center in Houston. I will be one of the few shooting a pump vs. the semi autos. Wish me luck.

Is the American Shooting Center the one on Beltway 8 on the North side of Houston?

If so, ask them if they still have the topless shoot they used to have in the early 90's. I didn't go, but I had a couple of friends who went...they say it could be, uhhh..."disarming" at times.

I'll bet our Rivalries Board Ultimate Sportsman....Dub...has been to it. If he hasn't, he should have.

No,

This one is on Westheimer past Hwy 6. The one you are talking about sounds fun though.

That pump is going to cost you 6/7 birds in the round. Borrow a gun for all the true pair.

Last time I shot at ASC, they threw on report, so the pump didn't really screw me up too bad. Now my shooting, that is another story.
