t.u. can have their t-shirt t-sip Lance Armstrong any day. We claim a TRUE American hero as one of our own, the late great James Earl Rudder, hero of Normandy and preserver of world peace, freedom and liberty:

and here come the....

well we had x
well we had y

I can understand why t.u. embraces Lance, he lives in the community, so be it.Much like Aggies embrace GHW. Bush (yes I know he put his library here) but he is not an Aggie. You see where I am going with this.

I am sure there are some on here that route for teams from states in which they came from, I know there is a guy who loves the Hogs cause he lives in Arkansas) no big deal.

Overcoming a lethal disease and dominating a sport which offers an extreme test of endurance, conditioning, and mental fortitude is in itself a heroic act. The example Armstrong has set for others with cancer with his determination and attitude could potentially save thousands of lives. Lance is more than just a guy who is a bicycle racer. There are few individuals who will or have had the impact on others as he has and will. You don't have to be shot at running up a cliff to be a hero.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
this thread is not about lance. there is another thread for that.

unavoidable irony on my part.

I think the point more is that Gen Rudder WAS an Aggie while Armstrong, while certainly a hero is NOT a sip, just a t-shirt fan.

BINGO!
bknetag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
and what I said was....

why compare the two?

compare it to the guy that walked on the t.u. football team that served in Iraq. or the other soldiers that have fought?

it is like comparing apples to rocks.

Rudder was a true hero but former president bush is just a t-shirt Ag. see my point?

however, comparing a bike rider to a D-Day soldier is stretching it just a bit too far. anyone watching the "Greatest American" series on Discovery knows that what most Americans consider "great" is a travesty. (i.e. Madonna in the top 100)

The inference here with the word TRUE in caps infers that Armstrong is not a True American Hero and that is just wrong.

Santos - SPR is a compilation of 2 or 3 true events and a beefed-up story about a woman's sons. The whole invasion of Normandy that was protrayed in the movie was based on the real actions of Gen. Rudder's troops at Point du Hoc on D-Day. For that part of the movie, Hanks was acting in the role of Rudder.

not to start anything, but Hanks wasnt acting tha part of Rudder in SPR. Rudders men scaled the cliffs at Point Du Hoc. that is not the case in SPR.

quote:
In 1943, as a lieutenant colonel, he became commander and trainer of the Second Ranger Battalion, which had a major role in the D-Day invasion. Rudder's Rangers stormed the beach at Pointe du Hoc and, under constant enemy fire, scaled 100-foot cliffs to reach and destroy German gun batteries. The perilous mission resulted in a higher than 50 percent casualty rate in the battalion. Rudder himself was wounded twice during the course of the fighting. In spite of this, he and his men successfully helped establish a beachhead for the Allied forces
