And playing LSU in College Station is much, much easier than playing OU at a neutral site.

Of course, but out of a 49 games series, we have played LSU in Baton Rouge 33 times and once in New Orleans. Also, when you take out other neutral sites, we have played the Cajuns a grand total of 9 times in CS. So you really got us there.

You realize Texas has a significant advantage over OU in the series?

I am fully aware that texas used to own OU before almost anyone on this board was born.

Or did you just start watching college football within the last 5 years?

Well somehow I happened to know that both the Clemson and LSU Tigers call their stadiums "Death Valley." So did you ever start watching college football?

I think Watson's point remains, what has made your schedule strength so tough the last COUPLE of years, not going all the way back to 98, is primarily teams like Utah and Pitt being much better than expected. Add to that the fact that you have to play us with our record (vs us playing you with yours) and your SOC is going to be a lot higher than ours.

Yes, you deserve credit for Va Tech. They're always a legitimate top opponent. I don't see them as being any different from Ohio State for us this year, though, really. Clemson is about on the level with Arkansas.

I'm not sure why anyone would be talking smack about any of this one way or the other anyway. We play each other. We've got a five win streak on you. If you're in doubt as to which team is better, that is the beginning and end of the argument.

it wasnt about schedule strength ego-tard...it was about OOC scheduling and one of your ego-tard infested board was ragging on our upcoming OOC schedules being pretty weak because of FL.St dropping our home and home with them and our having to pick up a D II team at the last minute....
FWIW, i think the reason you have been beaten the past 5yrs against OU is that you DONT test yourself early in the year until that game because of your weak OOC schedule

Somebody did bring up the point about sched. strength. Anyway, I said I thought the smack was dumb one way or the other. It's stupid for us because we haven't played that many great teams. It's stupid for you because we don't need to judge each other based on OOC scheduling--we can just use the head-to-head. You're not fairing so well there lately.

I don't think so. We've gotten tested by Arkansas, even if they're not a top 25 team. It's a mental block specific to OU.

so, what you are saying is that you get 'tested' (and in one case, beaten at home) by a non-top 25 team early on, but you have some sort of "mental" block against a top 5 team like OU... havent yall been ranked top 5-10 every year coming in to the 'shutout'??? if so, and you are being 'tested' by a non top25 team, wouldnt you agree that your early rankings are a bunch of sh|t and get inflated by putting 55 on N.texas???

Early season rankings for anyone are pure crappola. I give our wins v. Rice, N. Texas, N. Mex. State, etc. absolutely zero weight when I consider how well we'll do the rest of the season. I think the folks handling the rankings have figured out the same thing.

You don't have to be Top 25 to test a good team. There is not a lot of difference between the bottom teams in the Top 25 and the next 10 or so teams after them. Arkansas is tough. And they're always up for a game against us.

Are you suggesting we didn't deserve where we ended up at the end of the year last year?

Why does any of this matter to you? Whatever we've been ranked isn't it pretty clear we've been the better team lately?

this may be beyond your comprehension, but just because we lose to one of the top 3 teams in the country doesn't mean we don't belong in the top 10. Our early rankings are usually in the 5-10 range, which is also usually where we end the season. Thus, I'd draw the conclusion that they're pretty accurate. Also, rarely do we move up or down after playing North Texas (or an equally crappy opponent), unless someone above us falters.

Jeez, dude back away from the computer, you are embarassing yourself. Are you embarassed? Hell, I mean I am embarassed for you.

A&M played FSU in 1998, the year they won the national championship, but I mean how could that compare to playing Tulane, or backing out of a game with Hawaii because of fuel cost ...

Florida State won the MNC for the 1999 season by defeating Virginia Tech at the 2000 Sugar Bowl. Tennessee won the 1998 national championship.

Don't forgot those tough teams from New Mexico State and their long tradition of crap football.

WHO CARES??? Is New Mexico State worse than La Tech, Arkie St, TX State, SMU, U-La-La, McNeese St, and Tulsa, all of which A&M played in the last 5-6 years. Both teams do it. It's a stupid discussion. It doesn't matter anyway. We both play in the same conference and we play head-to-head. I could care less if OU played a worse OOC schedule than Texas. It doesn't really matter because they beat my Horns. How they did against Tulsa is irrelevant.

once again, you fail to comprehend the discussion... the initial post was that one of your boards was poking fun of our OOC schedules in the near future...yes, we both schedule some weaker teams,,,but for the most part, we have year in and year out scheduled a team that is a tough opponent for our OOC...

I do understand. I think it's a dumb discussion whereever it is being discussed. A&M always schedules an OOC team from a BCS conference. So does Texas. One can't predict how good that team will be in five years. Texas also scheduled Utah (Utah had to cancel because of changing conferences), and Utah wasn't any good when they were scheduled by Texas. Texas scheduled UNC, who was top 5, but were mediocre, at best, by the time the game rolled around. Both teams follow similar practices in scheduling OOC, so any "poking fun" by one school is ignorant.

This thread is now complete. Brandi, who believes the sun sets in Jackie Cheryl's crack because the ags were good twenty years ago, has mentioned time machine.

To remember the last time the aggies beat Texas you would need that Delorean. To remember the aggie glory years of the late 1980's you better have a full tank of gas in that thing.

P.S. OOC schedule smack talk is the weakest form known to mankind. UT has beaten the ags for the last five years, thats all that really matters. I don't see any horn fans trying to run their mouths about the OU schedule. Let this one die already. All that matters is head to head. See you in November.
