"He runs a clean ship, his players stay out of trouble, and have you noticed that nearly every one of the Longhorns' recent stars -- Roy Williams, Cedric Benson, Derrick Johnson and Nathan Vasher -- elected to stay all four years when they could have easily left early and been very high draft picks?"

Yeah, I also had to roll my eyes when he mentioned that the players always seem to stay for four years. I'm sure their minor league baseball contracts (and God only knows what else) have nothing to do with that...

Benson got arrested for the whole plasma TV incident.

Hardeman got busted for crack.

Dibbles, S. Young, McCullough, and A. Harris got busted for having pot in their car.

It's not that the UT players necessarily stay out of trouble... it's more that their indiscretions stay out of the print media.

He's a fat geek named Stewart that never played football in his life and got wedgies every day in high school. Who gives a crap what he has to say about college football.

Compared to SOME programs, his players do tend to be relatively troublefree.

Yeah you guys are nit picking if you consider that stuff trouble. Benson was trying to steal back his own TV. I know how I would handel the situation would be very similar. Those things are expensive.

very expensive! unless of course there free.

Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble this football.

This is the only place that thinks Texas has players in trouble all the time. It's ironic, considering how much more trouble Aggie players have been in.

Of course this is the same place that constantly rips on Brown for losing to OU five times in a row so there is lots of irony to go around.

steal back his own t.v.? who said it was his t.v.? him?

ok nitpicking, just thought it was funny. that's enough. sips still suck.

We fired the guy that lost to y'all 3 years in a row. Y'all extend the contract with the guy that loses to OU 5 years in a row.
JTaylor
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Forty-three wins in four years, including a Rose Bowl victory, probably had something to do with the contract extension.

Typical sip counterargument.

The original comment was about the sips made by a sip-loving moron. We refute said comment with facts. Sip responds with a classis "nan-nanny-boo-boo, your players are in more trouble than ours" statement.

This thread is not about the Aggies, nor was it intended to be. Nice spin, dillhole.

By the way, re: your 43 victories and Rose Bowl win - take a look at this description of John Cooper's Ohio St. career, and tell me if it sounds a little familiar.

quote:
John Cooper's career at Ohio State was filled with ups and downs. He had some teams that accomplished some very good things, such as the unforgettable Rose Bowl champions of 1996. In the years 1995-1998, Cooper's teams helped establish OSU as one of the premier programs in America as the Buckeyes won at least ten games for four years straight. But Cooper took a slide in 1999 as the team went from one of the best in America in '98 to being 6-6 in 1999, the heat that Cooper seemingly always experienced got worse and worse. The Buckeyes improved to 8-3 in 2000, but after some off-the-field problems and a listless performance in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1, 2001, Cooper was fired on Jan. 2. The Cooper tenure will unfortunately be remembered for this performance, these problems, his poor record in bowl games, and his notorious 2-10-1 record against Michigan

You really don't have a clue what you're talking about, no offense.

Yes, it was his he was looking for, which had been stolen from him. No one has disputed that until you.

compared to a lot of programs around the nation texas players do stay out of trouble.

i dont think the national media thinks of ut or a&m when they think of programs with lots of problems. they are more likely to think of ohio state, miami, fsu, tennessee and this year south carolina.

I also thought that was a surprising comment to come from Stewart.

Is TresMac responsible for the wide, wide variety of illegal indiscretions committed by his players? I don't think so. But he is responsible for how he handles the issues and when a player gets arrested for a felony in the week before the OU game but then gets suspended for the Baylor game... that's pretty comical and I give MacIII zero credit for running a "clean" program.

Implying that Texas is cheating without any basis. Nice.

Benson had a legitimate salary from a MLB team. Plasmas aren't expensive if you're a pro.

It was his TV. He was arrested for breaking an entering for getting his OWN tv back. Not smart, but not really stealing.

Wanna show where the facts are in these statements?

Texas has won a ton of games with a ton of talent just like RC did in the late 80s early 90s. Nobody in their right mind ever thought RC was a top 10 coach.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Mack may be a lot of things, but dirty isn't one of them. Take off your maroon glasses.

Kids get in trouble, Aggies included. I wouldn't say DF runs a dirty program because of some of the mistakes his players have made. Nor would I say he runs a dirty program because of the way he chooses to punish his players.

How does a college student afford a plasma TV?? I smell NCAA investigation???

I agree AGSWON. A&M should take the lead in a massive investigation to figure out what all this minor league baseball stuff is all about.

Well there was that moving vehicle violation that Roy Williams got for running 90 in a 55 on the freeway of course seeing as he wasn't driving a vehicle sort of nipped that in the bud.

However, there was the time when he burned us through the air so many times that the FAA gave him a warning and a reprimand for flying without a proper license.

Read above. THE KID HAD A CONTRACT WITH A MLB TEAM. LEGALLY. It amazes me how many times I've heard people use this argument. Educate yourself.

Breaking into someone's house to steal a TV back is a criminal act whether he thought it was his or not.

"But he is responsible for how he handles the issues and when a player gets arrested for a felony in the week before the OU game but then gets suspended for the Baylor game... that's pretty comical and I give MacIII zero credit for running a "clean" program."

Beside the fact it wasn't a felony, he also wasn't arrested the week before the OU game. He was arrested the week before the Baylor game and subsequently suspended. So you just made that up. The same way you made up that Mack runs a dirty program. If you think Mack's players get in trouble and that he runs a dirty program, then you have to think that Fran's players get in even worse trouble and that Fran runs a dirtier program. Because Fran has had more players get in trouble.

And Cedric bought the television with his baseball signing bonus money.

I won't address the Cooper comparison because it's not the rivalries board, but suffice it to say that Mack is better off than John Cooper after seven years for a variety of reasons.
4getaboutit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I didn't say it wasn't a criminal act. I said it wasn't smart.

In other words,
breaking an entering---criminal activity
taking your own TV back---not stealing

All in all, not the smartest choice of action.
micahb2002
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Did he prove that it was his own TV? I like Cedric and am not trying to flame on him, but if he could prove it was his TV he could have gotten it back a better way.

If I'm not mistaken, the apartment he broke into was the wrong apartment, meaning the person he thought stole it didn't even live there. So, you're rationale that what he did was "okay" does not fly.
4getaboutit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I never said breaking into apartment, any apartment, was "okay". In fact, I said the opposite. I said breaking an entering was a criminal activity.

But let's face it, if somebody stole your TV, and you thought you knew where it might be, and you were a big, bad football player with a lot of big, bad football player friends, it's not out of the realm of possibility to think you might go try to get it back. Again, wrong choice resulting in a criminal charge. And rightfully so.

Some of yall are making my head hurt.
