Bring your wife....there are NO hot women in NYC.

You will be very disappointed in the pasty "talent" in that town if you are used to sights in God's country.

A couple of good steakhouses are the Strip House and Michael Jordan's (MJ's is inside of Grand Central - this probably seems a little touristy, but it was a pretty damn good steak). So many bars to choose from - the one in the W on Times Square is cool (Whiskey Blue, I think), but a little too trendy for my tastes. There is another good bar located in Grand Central called the Campbell Apartment Bar. You will have no problem finding good nightlife - I can't even recall the names of the places where I've had the most fun when up there.

Sightseeing - just the usual drill. The only places I've really ever visited for that purpose are the Empire State Building and the Financial District.

If you go to the meat-packing district and mention patch's name, you'll probably get preferential treatment.

Please stop by the Today Show and Kick Matt Lauer(sp?) in the Nut for me. Thanks.

If you can hit it during a time when it isn't crowded, McSorleys is a must. I don't know NY terminology well enough to describe the neighborhood, but I believe it is just east of the NYU area. Oldest pub in the US, one of the most entertaining bars I've ever been to.

i was visiting a friend of mine in NYC and his mom and sister came up for a few days.

we were taking his sister through the whole times square @ night routine when she decides she wants to go to that huge Toys R Us.

So me and my buddy duck into the bbq place across the street (on 45th or 46th) and sit at the bar for a beer.

we got to talking to the bartender and he asks where we're from and my buddy says he lives here now but originally from Kingwood.

The bartender says thats a familiar name and the floor manager ends up being from kingwood. But to make things better, the bar manager is an Ag!

So we drank coors light and ate tijuana fries (he introduced them to the restaurant, stolen from the chicken) all night, listened to great texas country music all in the middle of times square.

there's also knox's northgate pic on the wall!

tsa - Stay away from the Metropolitan MFA on any Sunday afternoon. Some ethnic group will be having a parade on the street in front of it, and you will be trapped. We got trapped by about 600,000 PR's there. It's a nightmare.

I haven't been there in about 15 years, but I was single when I went and remember being very disappointed in the women there.

The hottest girl I met when I was there was also visiting from Texas.

I guess I was expecting all of these runway model types to be roaming around, but found the actual talent in the night clubs to be very ordinary.

Kind of like going to Colorado.

I know I had the best Italian food I have ever had there....I don't remember the name of the place anymore...but apparently good Italian food is pretty common there.

I think the island has pretty decent tail, when compared to the rest of the Northeast, where they are generally awful. Another plus - they aren't really interested in wearing bras up there.

the talent in NYC is off the charts good. Find a decent club and you'll be impressed.

Mesa Grill 14th St and 5th Ave
Becco 46th St and 9th Ave

There weren't too many Chinese on the buses...

Yankee Stadium for $7.50 Coors Lights... get there early, they close Monument Park 45 min before the game.

To really absorb New York you need to see all the boroughs while you're there. Brooklyn and The Bronx are equally interesting and Queens isn't far behind.

Most New Yorkers either leave town for that one or barricade themselves in thier rooms for that one.
Do what you want, but please don't go the the Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood or the Disney Store. The ones in your home town are just as awlful and probably a little cheaper.

On weekends you can kayak on the Hudson for free: http://www.downtownboathouse.org/

Statue of Liberty and Ellis are great to see and will take most of 6 hours to do, but well worth it. Ellis is unbelievable what those folks all went though to get here. To get into the base of the Statue you need a free ticket as well as pass through the machines that blow air and sniff you and that's after a typical airport scan before being let on the ferry boat. Call or web over to the Circle Line for tickets. Ground Zero is a must and close to the Statue ferry dock. Go after Ellis Island.

Bond 45 on 45th between 6th and Broadway was the best meal we had there. Excellent Italian - softshell crabs, veal picatta the size of a pizza.

The oyster bar in Grand Central has clams, oysters and mussels from all over the world - interesting varieties I did not know even existed.

Walk across the Brookly Bridge. Really cool, great views. You get on close to City Hall.

I'll definitely SECOND the recommendation of visiting McSorley's Pub for some beer and snacks. They have only 2 kinds of beer served - light and dark.

http://www.worldsbestbars.com/city/new-york/mcsorleys-old-ale-house-new-york.htm

I was in McSorleys this past October while visiting Manhattan for the first time ever - a couple of buddies and I got in after watching the Texas/Kansas football game (needless to say - that game had already driven us to drinking). I found 3 of the only chairs available at a table that some people were already seated at and asked if they minded us sitting down - ended up four of the guys were all with FDNY and we joined them for several rounds and many stories - most of course from them.

You know you're having a good time at a pub when your buddy initiates the singing of God Bless America and the WHOLE BAR joins in at the top of their lungs - AND, all this happens at about 5 o'clock in the afternoon.

Was the one part of my trip to NY that I'll never forget.

go to Juniors in Brooklyn for cheesecake.

I think the 6 train drops off pretty close to Flatbush Ave. in BK. The neighborhood is very different over there. i liked it.

Don't take the 6, its terminus is City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge. The N and R used to stop right by Juniors, in any case you want the DeKalb station.
