A local news station came out to my plant when talking about how we got fined by TCEQ for emissions during startup. They showed steam coming out of various process equipment while talking about our emissions. The ignorance of some people is amazing.

Yeah, I think it was Colin Quinn who recently labeled CNN as "Al Jazeera West" referring to their biased reporting on the war on terrorism.

When CNN first came on the air (in the early-80's I believe), they were actually pretty good. Their original anchors, Bernard Shaw and the other guy whose name escapes me, didn't try to "spin" the news very much in the early years. In fact, many people I knew complained during their early years that it was just "too dry" to watch CNN, since, for the most part, they simply presented video footage along with whatever facts they had.

By the late 80's and early 90's, when CNN's viewership had increased to lofty heights, Ted Turner and his henchman apparently decided to present the news in such a manner to reflect their political views. Since then, it's been pretty hard to watch the 24-hour propaganda.

Hap - you must not rememebr the very first day of CNN in 1980. Turner had a televised news conference announcing the formation of CNN and flew over the podium the flags of Georgia, the US and the FREAKIN' UN! He even made a statement about why he was flying the flag of the UN, and how the US needed to be more subservient to them. (my words - not his)

No, I don't remember seeing Turner at the CNN "groundbreaking" in 1980. But I am pretty certain their reporting in the early years wasn't nearly as biased as it later became. But, that's true of all of the mainstream media outlets. Even the New York Times and CBS in the early 80's was a little more careful in showing their liberal slant. Although it was detectable, they didn't rub the public's nose in it as they did later.

Also, as someone else noted, by the time Bernard Shaw left CNN, his credibility as an anchor or reporter had dropped to the Peter Arnett level.

I actually find that term quite accurate. The bomber's goal is to kill as many people as possible, not to specifically kill himself, hence "homicide."

OK, if you guys want to chastise CNN for being so incredibly liberal, that's fine. But do you at least acknowledge that Fox News is slanted the other way just as badly? I'm saying they're both pretty bad, if you don't see that though, I pity you.

Your right Welker, but lets face it, this country is VERY polarized and both sides and they both only want to hear flowers and sunshine about their side and fire and sulphur about the other. For a long time TV was strictly liberal (radio was conservative) but Fox represents conservatives finally getting a news network of their own. Frankly they're no more slanted to the right than CNN is to the left which is why its hillarious to hear liberals condem Fox as "propaganda" because they're just so used to hearing THEIR propaganda on TV it was shocking to finally hear someone elses viewpoint on television.

That's not what I'm saying though. I agree with what you said. I just wanted to make sure no one thought FNC was an objective news outlet.

welker, its not that they're that slanted , its that they tell stuff the msm wont. in other words , " The rest of the story"

almost every bomber is a "homocide bomber." the term "suicide bomber" describes the way in which the bomb was delivered as we all obviously know the guys intent is kill.

its just a term that had to be thought up to be "unique." as an independent, fox news is twice as slanted as CNN, which says alot. i think its just funny to watch reps dog cnn and prop up FN.

that being said, it sure would be great to get a station run by independents who actually didn't have a slant.
