OK, so this is probably going to make Staff revoke my Ag tag, but oh well.

I have decided to be a good older brother and go to Lubbock for the KSU game during their "family weekend" event they have. I guess this question is more for the Red Raiders on this board than anyone else.

When I posted earlier looking into the possibility of sitting with my sister in the students section of the A&M game, it was mentioned I would be escorted out by security because I didn't have a genadm. ticket, and for my own personal safety. My question is this... (First, know that I'm an instigator. As an example, I leave to work at a summer camp in Massachusetts this year, and I'm making sure I bring my "Ags for Bush" shirt). I can't bring myself to cheer for Tech against KSU, but I can bring myself to be indifferent. If I decide to be proud of my school no matter where I am and wear Aggie stuff to the game (and for that matter, my Aggie Ring) do I have any reason to fear for my personal safety? I figure it's not the A&M game, so it should be cool, but I'm interested in your guys' thoughts on the matter.

(And if you're an Ag, the answer is no, I can't get out of it, sorry)

Thoughts? Comments? (And Staff please don't take away my Ag Tag, I'm just trying to be a good and supportive older brother)

common sense would tell you not to wear aggie gear, unless you want an excuse to come back to the board to say how bad the fans were toward you for no reason. how bout just wearing a plain maroon t-shirt

so... you're an instigator. and you're going to wear your aggie gear. and you're going to sit in the Tech student section. and you're going to 'try' to be neutral. all the while suppressing your 'instigative tendencies'.

Don't sit in the student section. For your own benefit, and for the benefit of the Tech fans around you (to whom you are an univited guest in their home). I would be very surprised if you were to be treated poorly, but a lot of that depends on your ability to shut up if some drunk 20 year old spouts off at you. And they will. You can either ignore it as the antics of a drunk college kid being a drunk college kid and let it go, or you can respond in kind. If you think you can keep your trap shut and enjoy the game, you'll have no problem. If you can't, then you'd be better off sitting somewhere else.

You'll have a lot more fun on the alum side. People are nice, and will be impressed that you're there supporting your family members that go to Tech.

Just as if I were to go to an A&M game with a family member, I wouldn't want to sit in the A&M student section. Why would you even want to sit in the Tech student section in the first place?

Oh, and if you do wear your aggie gear, and make reference to "tards", or tier 3, or sand fleas, or the location of bathrooms because you gotta "take a tceh", yeah, I'd expect you to get the crap kicked out of you. Be smart, be respectful, act like a guest in someone else's home (just the way your momma taught you) and you'll have fun. OTOH, be a dick around a bunch of hammered 20 year olds and you'll get treated as such.

Pretty much the same as anywhere you go in life.

Since he's going with his sister, who happens to be a student at tech, that would lead me to believe he's an invited guest.

This is fact. Texas Tech requires all who enter to carry 40 proof or better into Jones.

WHAT THEY SAY VS. WHAT THEY MEAN

"You're going to have shti thrown at you, but if you don't say anything they might not try to hurt your mother."

"You'd better wear a red glove over your Aggie ring hand so that the inmates at Tceh don't try to bite your finger off."

"On the other side people won't try to rape you as much."

Wear your ring, but don't wear any Aggie gear. Being drunk at the game is a tech tradition (on the alum side, too) and there will always be a drunken snot trying to start something.

Some "brave" jerk will light into you, since he figures you're outnumbered about 49,999 to 1. Don't expect his fellow students to stop him, either. Only about 5% of tech students are the real jerks, but unfortunately, almost none of the other 95% will do anything to discipline the 5%.

Therefore, you should take the high road. You don't have to hide your Aggie Ring or pretend you're not an Ag, but don't wave a red (or maroon) flag in front of a bull for no good reason. Enjoy the football, be polite, and study the crowd like an anthropologist studying a primitive tribe. You might learn something.

If he pays for a ticket to sit in that crappy tractor pull arena, what difference does it make?

I personally would rather wear an American Flag to a Taliban picnic that set foot in Lubbuttocks with 30,000 kids that will have lifetime peeenis envy of Texas A&M and an inferiority complex the size of Mike Leach's nose.

If you would like a reasonable suggestion, then I would recommend that you sit over with the alums and do what my family and I do when at each others stadiums and that is to not wear school colors and simply avoid being an instigator. I'll invite you to have a beer and a burger before the game if you'd like but there's no reason to try and get under peoples skin just because you feel "proud" of your school. Anyway, that's my two cents. I hope you have a nice trip and enjoy the time with your sister.

First of all, I will be sitting with my parents, not with my sister (I think.) And I wasn't planning at running off at the mouth. I was just planning on wearing an A&M shirt.
exraider
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well then, the only question is why? What is the point of wearing an A&M shirt to an event that has nothing to do with A&M. Did you wear an Allman Brothers t-shirt to your wedding? I guess I just don't understand that. When I visited my brother to watch them do a mizzou or cu game, I never wore a Tech shirt because it would have been inappropriate.
AgMarauder04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Mainly because 85% of my t-shirts are A&M. But aside from that, at the countless games I've been to at Kyle, it's not uncommon for me to see people wearing other school's apparel (Big XII schools no less) in the student section. I've seen a fair amount of Red Raider, Horn, Sooner, and Baylor shirts at games in which we weren't playing them. I'm really not trying to be a jerk. But if it really is a situation that could cause problems, then I certainly won't do it. I'm not trying to cause any trouble.

He would be an uninvited guest in the student section even if he sits by his sister. The only way he could get in the student section is to borrow someone's ID. If you actually pay for a ticket, wear whatever the f..k you want. I've been to A&M games when they are not playing Tech, and I was smart enough to not wear red and black. There is no need in it if you are indifferent

First I would say to get yourself to a store.

Then, just treat it like you would if you were going to the high school playoff games and wear a golf shirt and some pants. Nobody is saying that you can't be proud of your school, go ahead and wear your ring and so forth. But,you don't seem to have a dog in the hunt, so have a good time with your family and enjoy the game.

Alright, that sounds reasonable, and what I'll probably end up doing anyway. Speaking of which, what type of weather can I expect in early October up in Lubbock? I mean hell, in College Station it's still low 90s, high 80s, but in the plains of the panhandle, I have no idea.

And leachfan, I wasn't trying to be a jacka$$, I was honestly asking for opinions. thanks anyway.

Just show up in Aggie gear, but drunk as a skunk. Their empathy for your condition/disease will cancel out any animosity generated by your gear.

Having said taht, watch out for falling stuff!

Just show up in your aggie gear...nothing will happen. Some students might yell at you, but that's what students do.

Not that. The coldest game I've ever attended was the loss to Kansas in 02 when KK got hurt in OT. It was early-mid Oct and the wind chill was in the teens. It was brutal.

Cool, Thanks.

And that being said, I'l probably make my final decision on what to wear later, but I'm sure if I do wear Ag stuff, it'll make for some good conversation starters

great conversations like...."hey, did you misread the schedule when you were trying to buy tickets for the tech/a&m game?" or "it's called a CALENDAR!"

you'll just be settin yourself up for a major drumming

never take your ring off, you worked hard for it and wear it with pride. dont wear and aggie shirt, the aggies arent playing and if you want to be nuetral then just wear a regular shirt.

imo if you go to a tech-ksu game with an aggie shirt on then you deserve any verbal taunting you get.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I went to the tech Baylor game a couple of years ago and wore a shirt that said "Texas A&M" on the front and "Baylor vs Texas Tech....who gives a ****" on the back. Let me just say that I was never treated so rudely in my life. Those tech fans were just plain nasty to me, and the Baylor fans weren't much better.
AgMarauder04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That's probably because your shirt was as much supporting A&M as it was insulting both Baylor and Tech.
shiner raider

He wears a shirt insulting both schools in question and he wonders why he was treated badly.

So do they have a "Family Weekend" in Aggieland? You would think it would be pretty easy since you really only need to send one announcement.

Ha.

And yes, it's called "Parent's Weekend." It's in April. And parents who want hotel rooms need to book them the preceding May, since by June every hotel in a 20-mile radius is booked solid.

Of course, Tech is the only school in the Conf for which this question would even need to be asked.
