Okay, we've finally picked a date - Saturday June 4th beginning about 3:00 in League City (half way between Houston and Galveston).

Background: I started a thread about six weeks ago to see if there was interest in a Texags/Rivalries get together. I was pretty surprised at the response. Had about 30 posters say they would come. The majority of which were Legends or Hall of Fame posters (that surprised me). There were also a startling number who were willing to come from Dallas or San Antonio etc. That kind of puts pressure on me to make sure it is a good event. Of course, now that I have picked a date I'm sure that will knock quite a few out. Anyway, here is what I will provide for this bash:

I'll open up my house and reserve the lake for water activities. It is a private lake with only six owners but we'll have it to ourselves for the party. I'll provide the ski boat and necessary equipment. I will need some volunteers to drive. In the last thread there were several volunteers. I must warn you though it is a tournament inboard ski boat. It is nothing like driving an outboard or I/O. (The high speed handling is easy; it is the slow stuff and backing that is a fine art)

I'll provide the BBQ. Probably brisket, chicken, and sausage along with fixn's. DayAg was very interested in helping. If the date works DayAg, let me know.

I'll provide the beer (at least a two or three brands) and soft drinks.

I've got a basketball goal with the key and 3 point stripe. Unless you've got a favorite ball no need to bring anything but your game.

There is fresh water fishing in the lake. Chile Pequin was very interested in setting up a fishing competition. Does that weekend work Chile? (It isn't Memorial Weekend) I'll provide the lake, but BYOPole and tackle.

Col Nathan Jessup and others were very interested in poker. I can provide a cheap card table or two but I'll need someone else to provide everything else (not a poker player).

There is a nice golf course right down the street (Magnolia Creek). There can be a pre-party golf outing. LonghornDub said he would help organize that if he was free that day.

Right now my ping pong table is a disgrace. Hopefully, by that time I will have bought a new one or a pool table (or a combo set) for the game room.

Of course, the key to success is the people that show up. As I said I was pleasantly surprised at the interest expressed earlier. However, I also have a fear that nobody shows but some poor guy who came from Dallas dragging a reluctant girlfriend. They get here and think "we came all this way for this." Therfore, RSVP's have to be public and made on this thread. That way, in theory at least, everyone knows who is coming and if a bunch bail at the last minute you'll know who it was and it won't be my fault.

Anyway, if you are interested, first post here that you are coming. It is okay to say something like "60% chance I can make it but depends on kid's soccer tournament." Just try to be honest in your assessment. If it is unlikely (but still possible) go ahead and state that. Also update your RSVP on this thread and state it as an update so I am not double counting "Previously said was 90% sure but now looks more like only 20% chance I can make it." I've given a lot of parties and found those types of RSVP's are a lot more accurate in the aggregate than the usual yes/no choice.

Second, post whether bringing spouse, significant other, life partner etc. In the previous thread that was a common concern - spouses wouldn't come unless they knew other spouses were coming. Children are welcome. I've got a Rainbow playground set and lot of other kid stuff. However, you'll have to watch them around the water and you have to figure the type of people you are exposing them to. I've got a three and six year old. Since I am hosting I'll probably have them with a sitter but the sitter may be at the house or next door.

Third, e-mail me for directions and other info. I promise I will never release your e-mail address or your identity. I will only use it to send you the info for this event. My e-mail address is fblack@greerherz.com If you haven't gotten a response within two business days then it means I probably didn't get it.

Lastly, saying yes last time doesn't count. You have to say it on this thread. Also, for those many who graciously volunteered to help in a particular area no need to apologize if you can't make this date.

I'll go first. 100% chance for me and 99% for Mrs. Skihorn.

50% chance I can come depending on summer internship details.

And whether or not the other people coming (and their wives/sons/daughters) are going to beat me up for mouthing off so much.

Man sounds like a great time. Put me down for golf, poker, fishing, and beer if I can make it.

15% chance that I show up. As in there's a 15% chance in my estimation that my best friend calls off his June 4th wedding. I will start working on him immediately. Hopefully that number gets around the 80% mark by the time I tell his soon to be wife about his extracirricular activities.

Ski, it sounds like a great bash, but my wife already thinks I'm crazy for meeting up with TexAgs folks at the M&W game, I can't imagine she'd be willing to drive to Houston to hang with some herself.

5% chance I come, and the reason I leave that five is because it sounds like it's gonna be an awesome time.

Skihorn - 95% chance I'll make it. I'll be glad to help any way I can. Mrs. Dub is totally unreliable. I have no control and no clue as to what she will do. It's what happens after 41 years of marriage.

Good chance I'll be there...and I'll try to drag Pop out there, too.

I'm an accomplished card player, an avid water skier, a passionate beer drinker, and quite the rainbow playground enthusaist.

Thanks Dayag! We can just stay in touch and decide when it gets closer. I still don't really have a feel for how big this is going to be. When I get a bettter idea of how many mouths we're feeding, we can put together a cooking game plan.

Screw 'global warming' and its alleged effects on the environment. There will be enough hot air at this shindig to alter world climates for centuries.

Ski - I will not be able to come. I have to take the wife on the 25th anniversary trip that weekend and the schedule does not inlcude anywhere near Houston.

Mike: You are so whipped if you're picking a 25th anniversary over going to a party with a bunch of strangers.

That is very generous on the door prizes. Ordinarily, I'd say don't worry about it but you were HIGHLY recommended for this job on the previous thread so I may take you up on it. I'll e-mail you next week.
Skihorn
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Wow, this had already dropped to the second page. On the original thread there were 30 posters indicating they would come. Of course, when there is no date set it is easier to say yes. Given that the vast majority of those 30 haven't responded either way, I'm going to assume at this point most haven't seen this thread or are checking their calendars.

Even if only a few wind up saying yes, I'll still host it. In such a case I may upgrade the menu to filet mignon. If however, those few want to back out due to the low numbers that is fine too. I'm flexible either way. Anyway, should have a better idea after people get back to their office next week and are checking this forum. It is amazing how many posters (myself included) post mainly from work. No need to waste time here on the weekend.

As the years pass, you'll look back on this thread as both the dumbest thing you've ever done (by posting it and inviting everyone) and the greatest thing that's ever happened to you (when no one shows up).

Short Term Memory: Believe me I have already been thinking that. If this thing either gets cancelled for lack of interest or becomes a simple gathering of three or four people, I'll be one of the most relieved people around (actually the wife will be the most relieved). If it takes off, like it looked like it was going to do on the first thread, then I'm going to be sweating it out until the day arrives.

Ski, i was thinkin that 3:00 sounds kinda late to kick things off. just my opinion, dont know what the schedule is like, but with so many options of things to do, skiing, fishin, golf, cards. Just seemed like we wouldnt have a lot of time to do much of but maybe one thing. Just a thought. If i am sure i can make it , i'm an early morning type of guy, specially if we're cookin, but it sounded like you would have most of that done the night before, cept for the chicken and sausage. Sausage doesnt take any time at all but chicken a little longer.Anyway just some thoughts.I could be there early and help with some things if you needed me.And i'd like to try the fishin if i could.

ps: you might try invitin a couple of hotties, to spice things up a bit, specially if they want to ski. What with the bikini's and all, would be interesting. Eye candy never hurt anything. And you might attract a better crowd that way. :-) I'm for cards too.

The golf would definitely be ahead of time, say 11:00 a.m. tee times. Obviously you (if you're available) and I would be cooking ahead of time. Also, the fishing (or for that matter any activity) can start earlier if need be. Part of the reason for the 3:00 start was because by then there is some good shade for just hanging around outside. There is also almost always a cool breeze coming off the lake about that time. That then gives a good 5 and half hours till dark.

As for the hotties, as I referenced in an earlier post my next door neighbor (before he married) used to have parties all the time that looked like something straight out of Baywatch. It was mostly originated from a friend who was a Hooter's waitress. Maybe I can track her down but more realistically I may have to outsource that job. Okay, so we've got LDub on golf, Mike for door prizes, DayAg for cooking so who volunteers to be in charge of bringing the hot women? Heartbreakers is only about a mile and a half from my house (or so I'm told.)

Anybody know Skibunny from this board? She claims to be pretty hot, or at least everyone seems to assume so. No relation to me but we did have an exchange of messages once and share the same passion for a little known ski area - Wolf Creek. Even though she only rarely posts on the Rivalries forum, she would certainly be welcome. Skibunny, if you read this I am not hitting on you. I am happily married.

This is now the third time this thread has dropped off the front page. There were a LOT of posters who seemed genuinely excited in the earlier thread. The vast majority have not responded here. For those that did say they wanted to come earlier, go ahead and post here that you are not coming (if that is the case) so I'll know that this is actually being read. As I stated earlier, when a date was announced I figured about half the people would have a conflict. But this is closer to 90%. Looks like I may save a ton of money. Anyway, below is the list of posters who earlier indicated interest. Not trying to call anyone out. Just trying to determine if people really aren't coming or just have quit reading this board during this exciting Houston/Dallas debate.
