LSU and TEX have been bigger brands than A&M for ages. Will they become big-time rivals? Possibly. The two fanbases are already at odds culturally and that's always fertile soil for a rivalry to grow. Very similar to the Arkansas/TEX rivalry in the old SWC days.

Being hated more by LSU isn't really that big of a flex if you think about it.

Also, this post should really be on the SEC Country board.

If you're wanting to start some smack on this board attacking Tech is the way to go. Those boys are pretty salty these days.

I think the Tech and A&M fan bases used to be very similar. As the perception of A&M's academic standing has risen, the student body has become more similar to that of UT and less so of Tech. It used to be almost anyone could get into A&M (I'm living proof). But now that it's almost as difficult to get into A&M as it is to get accepted into UT.

This isn't a slam on Tech academics, just a point about how academic perception has changed. The fact is all three institutions are accredited by the same body and have the same state-mandated curriculum requirements. From an undergrad perspective, the difference in actual education between the three is minimal at most.

Additionally, in many ways the education you get is highly dependent on the effort you put into it. One could get a better education at a "lesser" school by applying some elbow grease than one could get coasting at the prestigious school.

To wit... my first "real" job was doing background checks on physicians coming to Texas. There was a Harvard medical graduate who applied for license but was rejected because he failed the USMLE Step III three times. Meanwhile, 100% of Tech medical graduates that year passed Step III on the first attempt. Still, he was stunned we wouldn't ignore our own laws for him since he was a HARVARD MEDICAL GRADUATE.

Lastly, LSU's fan base has only one thing in common with UT's as best I can tell and that's an overabundance of t-shirt fans.

Well, there is that.

I'd say Harvard and yale fans wish they were Longhorn fans. and Lsu fans most resemble toxic cane toads.

Here is what I envision….

The State of Texas becomes the State of Florida from the 1990's.

The Aggies fire Jimbo and bring in a young offensive mastermind as coach. Both schools continue to recruit lights out - as they should with their built in advantages. The Longhorns continue to improve. The Aggies, with the talent already on campus, become great overnight. The Longhorns and Aggies win like the Gators and Seminoles did back then. Everyone from every other state hates and resents the State of Texas for their dominance in college football. A minimum 4 national championships are won between the 2 schools in a ten year span.

Texas and A&M still hate each other, but develop a mutual respect for each other. Every loss is not blamed on the refs, and everyone accepts that cheating is not the reason for these two schools' dominance. The State of Texas- one of the freest states in the country- is the common trait that binds the two schools and propels them to greatness.

Friend, I don't think the University of Texas wants A&M to have any semblance of equal footing. From canceling the series, to demanding the firing of Dana Bible, to sicking the Dallas Morning News on Jackie Sherill, to weaponizing Charles Alan Wright, the Longhorns don't play nicely in the sandbox and certainly don't welcome fair competition.

And, don't even get me started on Jon Bible and Randy Christal.
