The Texas game was scandalous! I saw 38 missed targeting calls!!!! players at numerous positions leading with their helmets, helmet to helmet, two helmets one head, helmet to head and neck areas, it was awful.

The State RB and QB were amazing. Those two guys deserve an award. Zona state was tough. I also like their coach who said after the game, "what is targeting? nobody can really even explain to me what targeting is."

Despite tossing up scary lobs, Quentin Ewers is pretty good also, running for a TD and throwing 2 TDs in OT ftw.

There were at least 3 missed targeting calls on Skattebo himself. On one of his first runs of the day, he lowered his head almost to the ground, to ensure helmet to helmet contact with a defenseless defender coming in low.

ASU had to concoct never before imagined trick plays, just to score a touchdown. However, they did control the clock for most of the game. They played admirably against a Texas team with a clear talent advantage at every position other than running back.

Luckily, Texas was gifted every close call, and given the benefit of the doubt on every uncalled penalty. Otherwise they wouldn't have stood a chance…..

The current targeting rule says the defender has to use the crown of his helmet.

The Texas player did not use his crown.

Simple helmet to helmet was the old rule prior to 2013.

Learn the rules people.

No it doesn't, learn the rules. In fact, a helmet does not even have to be involved for targeting a defensive player to be involved. Any contact at the head and neck using a hand, forearm, helmet, etc. is targeting. Learn the rules.

Criteria (per the ncaa)

Criteria for targeting in college football
The NCAA's targeting rule in college football prohibits players from making forcible contact with an opponent that goes beyond a legal tackle, block, or playing the ball. The rule aims to protect players from high-impact hits to the head or neck, which can cause concussions, spinal injuries, or other life-threatening conditions.
Some criteria for targeting include:
Leading with the helmet
Leading with the top of the helmet to make forcible contact with an opponent
Forcible contact to the head or neck
Making forcible contact with the head or neck area of an opponent with the helmet, shoulder, arm, or hand
Forcible contact against a defenseless player
Forcibly hitting a defenseless player in the head or neck area
Leaving the feet
Launching into an opponent with an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
Crouching
Crouching followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area

Again,learn the rules.

If THE TWELVE's Longhorns actually go on to win the MNC, they should share it with their conference brethren, the Arizona State Sun Devils.

So sad you have to latch onto other's jock strap for relevance. Maybe you will someday find something of your own to latch onto. Stay tuned!

saw a lot of guys leaving their feet. And even worse, launching. the launching was ridiculous. Football is about not launching!!! but here you have guys launching as if it's part of the game.

Yep. Real tackling has become a lost art, as everyone is going for the big espn hit- and watching the offensive player go for big gains.

"what is targeting? nobody can really even explain to me what targeting is."

Leading with and lowering the head/helmet - the tackler did neither.
They did bang helmets incidentally and the helmets did their job of protecting the heads .......

You can get a targeting call without a helmet being involved, there are several criteria- not just helmet to helmet.
