Did you know Tulane was in the SEC that year? That means they were really really good, doesn't it? Plus the Sugar Bowl was played in Tulane's own stadium so it was another home game for them.

Take a look at the competition & location of the regular season games. A&M only played 4 home games that year & still managed to go undefeated. Their opponents year- end record was 51 & 37. Not too bad really! That means A&M was on the road for 2 more games than Tenn was.

Tenn's opponents had a weak 32 & 50 year end record so no wonder they were able to hold them to no points. Plus they only went on the road 4 times & 1 of those games was in-state. Also, A&M played in San Francisco earlier the year so they probably decided it would be better for them & the fans to go to New Orleans than to far-off LA.
