Just think of your Ag brethren and how great it was to be alive in 1939. It was their last and only chance to win a National Championship in football as history tells us. No football was not broadcast on television...that came in the mid 1940s. Not many homes even had a television in 1939. So we will just have to assume the history we accumulate is valid with error being +/- 5% in facts.

List of 1939 Major News Events in History

And the following 6 years 20,000 Aggies prepared and fought (and helped win) the World Championship.

    Yes.

And one of them was named Marion "Dookie" Pugh. He was a Captain in the Army and the commander of a tank destroyer group.
He is also the only Aggie in history to nominate a fellow Aggie for the Medal of Honor where the citation was awarded. Captain Pugh and his men were defending a small town after D-Day against a German advance and a young Aggie noticed a gaping hole in their defenses and bounded down to man a mounted 50 cal machine gun and began to repel the Nazis by himself. One man plugged the gap. He was shot through the elbow, and with a nearly severed arm, managed to reload his Ma-Duece and went back to shwacking Nazis wholesale.
Captain Pugh wrote in his action report that it was the single most brave thing he had ever witnessed.

With the Germans successfully stopped, the young Aggie was sent to a triage where he lost his arm and soon after, his life.
The Aggie ring he wore upon his finger was lost, along with young man's arm.

Decades later, a family in France was rummaging through the attic of an old house and found a small box that had the ring in it. It was returned to the family and now rests along side his Medal of Honor in a museum.

Captain Marion Pugh wasn't just a commander during the war. He also happened to be the Quarterback for the 1939 team.

So raz them all you want about not winning jack squat since 1939, but remember-- those men did WAY more than just play football.

Speaking of real men and real hero's. One of my heros was a UT Longhorn named Tom Landry. A great man, father, husband, warrior and man of great faith.

Thomas Wade Landry earned his wings and a commission as a Second Lieutenant at Lubbock Army Air Field and was assigned to the 493d Bombardment Group at RAF Debach, England, as a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber co-pilot in the 860th Bombardment Squadron. From November 1944 to April 1945, he completed a combat tour of 30 missions. He also survived a crash landing in Belgium when his plane ran out of fuel.

Mr. Landry was kind enough to autograph a Leroy Neiman painting of him and is proudly hung in our TV room.

OP, do you remember 1998, 1999, and 2000?

The glorious 3 years when you were in second grade.

Yes. Your football team actually performed well in the modern era of football.

TCU won the National Championship in 1938 and had a Heisman winner

A&M won the National Championship in 1939, and John Kimbrough came in 2nd for the Heisman
John David Crow won the Heisman in 1958, the year the Aggies were ranked #1 going into November

tu, with all of the pretty girls and other advantages to recruit great players, didn't win a National championship until the 1960s, and no Heisman winner until 1977

Even I wasn't alive until 1942, but my dad told me all about 1939. He said Thomason was a better back than Kimbrough because he blocked and tackled better. I did impersonate Tommie Vaughan , the 1939 center, in an Aggie football uniform in the chicken skit of the Junior Poultry Auction Committee at the HLSR one year. He was one of our big bidders.

I'm convinced. You're a sock. You're not a Texas guy. You're simply here trying to stir up this board.

No way you went to school in Austin. This is a troll attempt at blue on blue.

So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Did you just respond to a post you made 2 days ago after everyone put you on ignore?

Look--- seriously-- I'm sincerely concerned about your well being. Are you locked up somewhere in a closet? Have you been prescribed meds and you are no longer taking them? I had a friend that happened to.

Seriously, if you're suffering from bipolar disorder or some paranoid schizophrenia, please, tell someone.
