Their "biggest game in recent history" is an annual conference game for us. Hey dildos, tell us again how moving to the SEC was bad for A&M.

Ehlinger is in concussion protocol
And they're rail thin at RB, correct? With a backup QB and linebacker stepping in to fill those gaps.

I don't think he's in the protocol yet. It doesn't carry over from season to season, does it?

Texas Ain't Bama

Quote:

The last time LSU played Texas was in the 2003 Cotton Bowl. LSU staked itself to an early lead, until Mack Brown remembered Roy Williams was on his team. 142 receiving yards, a 39-yard rush, and two touchdowns later, Texas walked out as 15-point winners.

To be honest, I don't remember the game save for the tidbit that Michael Clayton played both ways. But if you're an LSU fan and have met a Texas fan at any point in the past 16 years, they are required by law to bring this game up within ten minutes of meeting you.

Which speaks to the bizarre inferiority complex of the Texas Longhorn fanbase. For all of the talk of Texas Arrogance, and boy is that a real thing, Texas fans are like the New Yorkers of the college football world, always quick to show up and point out their accomplishments with the barest provocation which, ironically, makes them seem less than they are.
Quote:

But there's also the sense that Texas is a bit less than what they could be. They are already a giant, so Sleeping Giant isn't the right term, but more of a Resting Colossus. And it's not just their recent history, which even the Longhorns would admit is at a historic low ebb.

Texas won 10 games and finished the season ranked #9 in the AP poll, which allows us all to load up our TEXAS IS BACK! Jokes. But before then, Texas hadn't won 10 games since 2009, and had not finished a season ranked since 2012. Four seasons this decade have ended with the Longhorns below 500, including a not-so-distant three-year stretch under Charlie Strong.

Texas has their own unique color scheme, a cool logo, one of the most distinctive mascots in sports, and their own television network. They are the top program in the state is that is practically synonymous with football.

Quote:

Texas could have five national titles, but LSU upset Texas in the 1963 Cotton Bowl, which was the last time these two teams had met before the 2003 Cotton Bowl. Both programs would rally to win a national title the next season after their Cotton Bowl loss.
Quote:

LSU is pretty familiar with the whole Sleeping Giant narrative, not to mention inferiority complexes. LSU, too, has not quite lived up to the full promise of the program, all while still winning a bunch of games. In our defense, we are usually drunk. Since 2000, LSU ranks fourth in the nation in total wins at 177, ahead of even Alabama.
And, hey, we've got pretty distinctive uniforms and our own cool live mascot, too.
Quote:

Texas has a bunch of conference titles, but a lot of that is from dominating their own backyard in the old Southwest Conference. In the post-expansion era starting in 1992, Texas has won five conference titles, two of them in the old SWC. LSU has four SEC titles in the same era. Or, closer to home for Texas fans, Oklahoma has an even dozen Big 12 titles to go with seven national titles.

We want to think of Texas as the Alabama of the Big 12, but they really aren't. Oklahoma is. Texas is the second fiddle in conference, the flagship university of a football mad state that pumps out an absurd number of high school prospects each year, only to be constantly frustrated by the even bigger football factory right next door.
Quote:

That's right, folks. We've met the enemy, and the enemy is us. Texas is the LSU of the Big 12. Why do you think the Aggies swapped their rivalry with Texas for LSU so seamlessly? Heck, we even beat A&M at roughly the same rate (Texas is 69-36-4, LSU is 33-20-3).

Maybe that's why we haven't played a regular season game since 1954. Looking into a warped reflection is uncomfortable. Even for the reflection.

For some reason the paste was not showing up for a long time and then finally caught up after I tried several times and caught up all at once. The front page of the Zoo gave my computer AIDS, I think.

The game comes down to two things: how a surging Texas OL responds to success versus La Tech and translates it to a superior opponent, and to what extent the Texas defense can contain a quality SEC signal caller with minimal breakdowns on the back end. Texas handles its business.

Texas 31 LSU 27

Geoff Ketchum (1-0)

The reason why having one of the best quarterbacks in the nation is so important is for games just like this. While I'm expecting a Big 12 shootout to break out at DKR on Saturday, the biggest advantage in this game is the one the Longhorns have at quarterback. Sam Ehlinger has been to the circus and seen all of the clowns in these type of big games. I'm expecting him to be the difference in an otherwise air-tight contest.

Texas 41 - LSU 37

Dustin McComas (1-0)

As I write this, Texas is listed as a 6.5-point underdog. Each time I think about this game, I always come back to three things: Sam Ehlinger; Tom Herman's record as an underdog; it's a home game for Texas in what will be a truly electric atmosphere.

It was Louisiana Tech, but I was encouraged by what I saw on both the offensive and defensive lines. After talking with someone that covers LSU, I'm even more confident the Texas defensive line might surprise people. LSU is really, really good and finally looks like it's truly implemented a more wide open, quick, spread off led by a talented, tough quarterback Herman recruited. The concern for Texas is whether it can get LSU into unfavorable third-down situations often and if it can correct some coverage and communication issues. And LSU's secondary is absolutely loaded.

But, again, Texas has the better QB (Burrow's statistical splits are odd), is at home, and I can't pick against Herman as an underdog. Texas makes one more big play late to pull out the win.

Texas 31 - LSU 30

Anwar Richardson (1-0)

I understand why many writers outside of Austin are picking LSU, but I think they are giving the Tigers too much credit. LSU has a brand new offense that has not been tested by a good defense. Texas defensive coordinator Todd Orlando has successfully defended spread offenses during his Longhorn tenure. Plus, LSU will have to play in a loud stadium on the road. That is a lot to overcome.

We saw Texas defeat Oklahoma in a track meet during the 2018 regular season. We saw Texas defeat Georgia in a Sugar Bowl slug fest. We have witnessed Tom Herman defeat the spread many times.

We will see Texas defeat LSU on Saturday.

Texas 34 - LSU 30

Jason Suchomel (1-0)

This is going to be a bit of a unique prediction for me. In breaking down the match-ups, I do believe LSU has more individual talent on its roster. The Tigers feature the nation's top secondary, have elite talent at the receiver position and really do have very good players across the board.

But this one, to me, comes down to intangibles. Maybe I'm buying too much into the Sugar Bowl, but I'm not picking against Tom Herman as an underdog at home.

If Texas is going to get the win, it feels like it's going to take 30+ points, and I think the Longhorns will hit that mark.

Texas 31 LSU 30

Giving up 30 points is successfully defending a spread offense. No wonder they went all in on Saban Jesus.
