This is at least in part a product of the recruiting industry over ranking their recruits. In fact I'd argue that's the primary driver. Players that never should have been seen as sure fire NFL draft picks turn out to not be NFL draft picks and it makes tu look bad. Not sure we could script it any better.

I agree. For the sips I think this is more of a reflection of just how over-inflated the their recruited player's rankings are

This will not come as a surprise if you've watched the Longhorns for most of the decade, but this study illustrates just how dismal the program's recruiting hit rate was. Just four of Texas' qualifying 38 Top247 players turned into NFL Draft selections. That 10 percent ratio is the only sub-20 percent rate of the 29 programs to sign 10-plus Top247 prospects. It's pretty obvious. Every 3 star Longhorn recruit immediately jumps to a 5 star and plays like a normal 3
Star in college. This causing him to look undeveloped.

Vise Versa for the Ags, when their 4 and 5 star guys are rated as 3 star by ketch and co thus outperforming said rankings.

I guarantee you every recruiter out there is tossing this stat out to anyone they want even considering tu. Could be something that really undercuts future recruiting efforts for them.

Yep. We just won 5 Super Bowls to look good. Too bad we couldn't be a city whose team moved to Tennessee because it couldn't sell tickets, or San Antonio with no team. We have a Stanley Cup championship yet Houston and SA can't get a team. Are you bragging about the Astros, who intentionally tanked for 10 or 15 years to build a World Series team, or the Rockets who only won because Jordan retired to baseball for a couple years?

But, Dirk beating Lebron & Co. instead of second tier teams was just for looks.

Bingo. Major contributing factor to those numbers.

I bet all the schools in that graphic are well represented in the "press" that does the rankings, too.
