I'll probably get blasted, but I strongly disagree. Felony drug possession with intent to distribute was certainly an eyebrow-raiser at minimum, though possibly not a kill shot. But on top of that, two posters told Brandon that Damon had taken money from them for services that Damon never provided. I understand Damon brought the first incident to a satisfactory conclusion, but he never did that with the second. With those three incidences occurring in rapid succession as they did, I certainly would have wondered if Damon was trustworthy or a con man, and worried that if he was the second he might use my board for his cons (exactly as happened).
I think a permanent ban would have been totally reasonable, and if Brandon didn't want to do that, he could have at least put a leash on Damon. Revoke his mod privileges at the bare minimum and and then make him start over with a new handle + forbid him from disclosing that he worked as a lawyer. Something like that.
However, I freely admit, though that it would be exceptionally difficult to determine how to moderate a message board and decide who's allowed to participate. Do you allow people to say whatever? Restrict certain language to prevent some of the rudeness that comes with the internet's anonymity? That's not an easy question to answer.
