Texas' defense was good...for the Big 12. That's not saying much, as there's hardly any defense played in that league because there's hardly any defensive talent in that league. Don't be obtuse. Texas had the number 6 defense last year according to FEI.

Before that Houston, yes Houston was ranked 15th in 2016 and 23rd in 2015 in his two years there. They were 77th before he arrived.

I didn't say the SEC was tougher to defend. I said the SEC has much better defenses than the Big 12 does. Do you really deny that? The SEC has more talent on both sides of the ball by a HUGE margin. Are you seriously arguing otherwise? Citing a bowl game that was a virtual home game against an incredibly weak SEC East team that had lost their OC doesn't really make your case, buddy. Texas defense wasn't anywhere close to several defenses in the SEC. That's obvious to anyone who isn't a massive idiot.Your Friend said:BESCo91 said:Tell ya what chief, we won't brag about beating a crappy WVU team in a meaningless bowl a few years ago if you don't brag about beating a crappy Mizzou team in a meaningless bowl last year.Your Friend said:

It's amazing how one's frame of reference shapes their opinions. Watching the defense played in that league weekly, I guess I can see why you'd believe that. But they're not even close to what we face in this league from a talent perspective. Not even in the same universe.
Those "SEC goal posts" that are a function of reality? Every conceivable measure available tells you that the SEC has WAY WAY WAY more talent than the Big 12 does. What I posted is EXACTLY where Texas stacked up in those measures - and they're also not facing the same level of talent when they do it. Some bull****, fringe statistic like FEI is the only measure you've cited. There is no way an honest individual who actually has any idea what they're watching would believe that Texas is better than any of the defenses listed above them in the categories I cited.Texasteasipper said:Flexbone said:Texas' defense was good...for the Big 12. I have no idea because nobody looks at FEI. I haven't compared the two in any way. But without even doing so, off the top of my head I know that Elko had a severe talent deficiency relative to his competition when at Wake Forest. He spent one year at Notre Dame where his talent level was certainly better, but not at the top of his relative competition. By contrast, Orlando has the first or second most talented roster relative to his competition since he went to Houston.
I do know that Elko produced 2 Top 10 defenses at Bowling Green. And at Wake Forest he produced Top 40-ish defenses every year. That's despite having a talent level that ranked, on average, 12th in his conference. Care to compare that to Orlando? His talent level at Houston, on average, was 4th in his conference.

That's because you can't refute the argument.
FEI isnt some magic stat that tells the REAL story champ. And it absolutely is a fringe stat. The fact that you can't see that a stat that puts THAT Texas defense as a top SIX defense in football is seriously flawed says it all. What you WANT to be true and what actually is are clearly two very different things.

Yes. We paid $75 million dollars over 10 years. In other words, about the same you will be paying over the same time period for Mack Brown, Charlie Strong, Tom Herman, and whomever you hire next to take over. Ours has a ring on his finger though, which is slightly more valuable than Herman's Paul Wall mouth bling.
Is Texas paying him? Who the **** else would know better you idiot? You mean the coach Herman beat while at Houston? You desperately paid 75 million, 10 guaranteed you mean...

Oh, theres another head to head matchup between the two coaches we are discussing to reference. Lmao, idiot.
It's absolutely hilarious that you're trying to point to a bowl game matchup where FSU's 3rd string QB was forced to play as some sort of measurement between these two when Fisher has one of the best resumes in the game and an NC ring on his finger while Herman is routinely getting waxed on the field by teams with less talent and humiliating himself and the school with his pathetic, embarrassing behavior. Guy is a complete meathead and tool and he's proving it every single day.
