What would you do if you were Kyler Murray?

Would you play football this year and then go for the NFL draft or would enter the MLB draft this summer and get paid/signing bonus and potentially get paid crazy money on your FA contract? OU will likely make the playoffs this season if he stays.

MLB teams were unwilling this offseason to pay big money to 30/31 year olds on their second/FA contract. MLB teams get your rights for 6 years, so if left this summer he would be a FA at 28 which would set him up for a FA pay day that makes him stupid amounts of money. Either way, he'd still be rich just playing in the MLB for 6 years.

Yes. It''s not like he or his father ever played for the Ags.

Well I guess if DJ Hogg can declare early for the draft with little hope of getting drafted, I guess Kyler can too.

I'd go back in time and grow a pair and stay put. Now I'd stay at OU and demonstrate I can finish at least 1 commitment.

I don't see his father's name anywhere in the post. Kyler quit on A&M after one semester. Let it go. Move on. We are in a new era and better off without him

Baseball for sure he has no future for a paycheck in the NFL. He is one hard hit from being "Sammed in the head".

With a QB who finishes 50% of his pass plays by practicing to slide into 2nd base? I don't see it.

I'm not sure of his baseball stats but are you sure he'd get drafted? And if so, why are you assuming he'd play well enough in those six years in the minors to actually land a FA contract?

To make it to the bigs now, you literally have to be coming from high school or an absolute stud in college. Even then, you spend a good 3 years in the minors.

He's a guaranteed early round draft pick.

ESPN Keith Law ranks him as the 36th Best Prospect for the draft. The linked article states that last year's 36th prospect signed a $1.9m contract with the Marlins. OP's SBNation article states that he may be in line for a 6 figure signing bonus with his current draft position.

Kyler's spring game wasn't great. Austin Kendall has the benefit of learning the offense and impressing coaches while Kyler plays baseball. It essentially comes down to both football and professional baseball being unknowns with baseball currently having the highest upside.

Not sure if serious. He has had some bad games at OU, but usually they come during the times he is also practicing for football in the same day. In other games he has killed it.

Yes, I do. They have almost the same team and the only big 12 team that has any chance of beating them is TCU and their out of a conference game this season is UCLA instead of Ohio State. They had the best offense in FBS last year and they're bringing back all of their RBs, WRs, and most of their o line. Murray looks improved and they won't ask much of him. The big ten champ will have at least one loss, there is a good chance Ohio will be higher ranked but PSU wins the east again or something weird happens with Wisconsin. Washington is most likely winning the Pac 12 but they will probably have two losses. OU will likely be undefeated or 1 loss max. The playoffs will be Clemson, SEC champ, OU, and someone else. Who else can win the big 12 this year.

But he should play MLB instead because he will never play in the NFL, he could get hurt in any game playing football, and will be paid better in MLB.

He can make about as much money as an MLB backup/utility player as an NFL starter. Follow the money.

Plus he has a 0% chance of being an NFL starter.

He just doesn't have the frame to play in the NFL.

Can he catch? If so the only spot for him in the NFL would be as a Cole Beasley type WR. I don't think he'd ever do it even if he can catch since he's so contact averse.

I get it - FB is big dudes trying to take your head off - but the reality is that he's a fireman that won't go in a burning building.

I think OU in the playoffs would be a good bet. I get it that A&M fans don't like Murray. But, not liking a kid doesn't mean you should discount his worth as a QB. Not intending to insult Aggies or A&M, but Kyler Murray is playing for a genius OC and QB coach and with a team with a very talented OL, one of the best RB groups in the country and a very good set of WRs. Plus, the OU defense has seen a lot of new talent infused into the defense the past two years.

Winning out in the FBS regular season isn't easy, but the OU schedule gives them a leg up. A 12 - 1 or 13 - 0 would get them in the playoffs.

Let me suggest that your solution might be to open the threads that are of interest to you and avoid the threads that are not. You might also consider not actually posting and bumping threads you don't like.

Good luck with all of it...

"the OU defense has seen a lot of new talent infused into the defense the past two years".....you must be right because Georgia only scored 54 against them last year.

I watched the OU Spring game on youtube.

Jmho, Austin Kendall will be the OU starting qb.

Kyler will get to play if Kendall gets hurt. But Kyler's QB play did not look to be any different from how he played as a true frosh at A&M: too small, too frail in build, and too weak-armed. Still has the quick feet. His deep passes and intermediate passes still float.

If Kyler gets drafted this May by MLB at a high enough draft spot to receive a signing bonus of even $300k, he should jump on it.

[Wtf were Jake Spavital & Kevin Sumlin smoking when they compared the high school game tapes of Kyler Murray and Jarett Stidham? Smh.]

I think you guys are underestimating the impact Baker Mayfield had. You don't think the offense will miss a beat replacing a Heisman with a 5'8" 165 lb QB who's probably better at baseball than football?

OU's defense was nothing special, so I would not be shocked to see OU drop a few shoot outs next year.
