Death penalty. Give it to them.

The Scapegoat tells the story of a highly talented college football coach silenced by legal constraints. Unable to defend himself, he watches as a corporation and a conference and the media define a storyline and blame him for the "off-field" behavior of his players. He is banished from the thing he enjoys the most in life coaching football. Will anyone take time to find out what really happened? Will anyone come along to speak on behalf of the coach? Is the scapegoat destined to remain in the wilderness forever?

He spent 375 hours researching this book?? Randolph Duke laughs at his lack of dedication to the cause.

The first review is a walk-off homerun.

Disappointed. Kendall Briles told me there would be pictures of white women.

A work of pure and ridiculous fiction. Part a fluff piece to rehabilitate the image of one of the most disgraced sports figures in Texas history by playing up Briles old standby con- phony Christianity. His argument basically boils down to assuming that Briles is innocent because no one could be that bad. Well, he was and Baylor spent massive resources trying to hide that fact. Absolute garbage.

Blatant vanity press publication that flies in the face of all publicly disclosed information about the Baylor scandal. If you want a real picture of what happened at Baylor, read Violated: Exposing Rape at Baylor University amid College Football's Sexual Assault Crisis, by Paula Lavigne and Mark Schlabach. Warning: It will make you sick to your stomach, as it should.

D***n straight CAB was a scapegoat, and crucified by that network in Connecticut and that school down the road from Waco! Besides, what did those Daddy's Little Darlings expect to happen, dressing like go go dancers, drinking and being out at midnight. Not saying rape is ever OK, but thank you Lane Alpert for showing the world that individual responsibility and accountability still means something in this #metoo society and that the BU football players and coaches are not to blame! Would this have happened if they were in Sunday Scool, where they belong?

This book grasps the larger context and proportionality, two things that are now verboten.

Finally someone tells the real story of what happened. Ignore the one-star reviews that obviously come from Rivals of this school and are butt- hurt about losing to the school for the last few years.

Love the theories posed and the other side of the coin that "scandals" hide very well. While the book is fictional it opens eyes to the reality of the type of control and influence college football has over players, coaches, programs, and public opinion. Kudos for the research and the engaging book! Hoping it will inspire real life changes in a sometimes unchecked flawed system.

An amazing read with attention to detail that the media certainly didn't take the time to uncover. I am glad the author took the time to research the facts and publish the real story. I hope Mr. Alpert chooses to write more books and provide the "rest of the story" for cases like this that need further exposure.

What a fun read. I enjoyed the book more and more as it progressed. It felt a little awkward at first because of all the unnamed characters and organizations, and it is does not neatly fit into a familiar genre. It is a kind of historical fiction / insider sports tell-all. Clearly it is very, very closely based upon true events, so it felt like a biography or documentary at times, yet it had the style and feel of a John Grisham novel at times. But most importantly, it was both entertaining and informative. By the middle, I was absolutely hooked. It is a real page-turner. And in the end, I was very satisfied, in spite of the fact that it is a tragic tale. I enjoyed it very much. If you love college football, and you love a good drama, then this is well worth your time. Enjoy the ride. (I'd give it 4.5 stars if possible)

"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free"....... The Scapegoat paints an unbiased account of the way money, power, and politics manipulate the truth. Find yourself on the wrong end of a scandal, and The Scapegoat illustrates how easily you could be sacrificed for the benefit of some machine. Hats off for not drinking the Kool-aid, and exposing the reality behind this travesty. It all makes much more sense........read it for yourself

Only available in paperback so surprised they didn't get Fabio for the cover.

Read the comments. It's histerical. All reviews are either 1 or 5 stars. Very few of those that commented actually read the book guaranteed. Just partisans using this as a way to bicker over their points.

"My girlfriend was telling me to read this..."
By Mantai Te'o on January 18, 2018

My girlfriend was telling me I had to read this. I was shocked at the amount of truth in it. I firmly stand behind everyone who wants to blame someone else for their problems. Clearly the players, coaches, administration and board of regents are not to blame. It was Col Mustard in the study with the rope.
