With the sips it is not what they say, but what they do. All the bdf talk about adding a CCG and then adding members all while planning an exit strategy is because we are "kicking their ass" in media revenue.
And they can't stand it.

Thanks again DeLoss

Didn't the Big 12 just get 31.2M per school (not accounting for unequal revenue distribution)? Doesn't tu get 15M/yr for their network (and yes I know it doesn't all go to athletic department)? I wouldn't say Ags are kicking their ass in media revenue.
No they didn't get 31.2 Million
No they don't get 15 Million per year for the LHN

Their Athletics Department will receive under $35 Million total for their three tiers of media rights and conference revenue distribution. Given that six years ago, they were outpacing the Ags in conference and media revenue by over $10 Million annually, and now they are operating at a $5 Million per year deficit to us, that is an ass kicking.

Before linking this to every BDF fan web site, can you at least fix your basic math error that would make a 5th grader blush? A 400% increase over $10 million is not $40 million.
Um.

I'm pretty sure you are wrong on the one, buck-oh.

maths
Sad. Here's how I would explain it to a 3rd or 4th grader:

If you have $10 million, then
a 0% increase would give you $10 million;
a 100% increase would give you $20 million;
a 200% increase would give you $30 million;
a 300% increase would give you $40 million.
You did not do 400% . How will he figure this out?

I'm glad we don't have to deal with 200+ page realignment threads. It's a far cry from 2010-2012 when sips assured us we had no SEC offer, A&M to PAC, $30 million exit fees, TCU/WVU upgraded the BDF, "we'll replace TD game from aggieieieggies to ND"

quote:
The downside is this. Expansion is being pushed by those who want to save the Big Xii. If Big Xii expands, has a conference game, and has an increased payout, then there will be arguments that the Big Xii has been 'saved' and there is no reason for OU to leave. The argument will be that Big Xii is just as good as the other P5 conferences so why leave?

The problem with that argument is this. Expansion, etc., is only a temporary fix. It's like trying to patch a 'sucking chest wound' with a band aide. We'll be right back in this discussion again and again. The population density of the Big Xii simply doesn't support a Power conference. It's the conference in the middle that will be 'cherry picked' by the other four power conferences. Let's get it over with

according to this KU fan on Landthieves, BDF is killed off because BIG or SEC offer tu and OU.

quote:

TCU could possibly try to make this work before accepting an invite from the Pac or SEC
If the SEC goes to 16 with OU and UT, then the B1G will expand. Exit KU.

If the B1G goes to 16 with OU and UT, then the SEC will counter with offers to KU and oSu. Maybe TCU gets the offer instead of oSu, but I don't know that is the case. Or, if the expansion is to 18, the SEC would be pretty smart to wrap up all three plus a Tech or Houston just to make the state of Texas really lean SEC. Let that sink in for a minute... OU and Texas get the big bucks of the B1G contract, but have oSu, KU, MU and Arkansas all in the strongest football conference forming a geographic wedge separating OU and Texas from their B1G brethren (and maybe the SEC flag planted in DFW with the purple frogs). Texas recruiting advantage: SEC

Go ahead, make JR's day.

If anyone in the conference moves, it will most likely be KU, OU and UT as a package deal. It's more likely we stay put. Ugh.

I'm not convinced that UT will join the ACC/SEC/B!G/PAC. I can see OU leaving, possibly with KU, for the B!G. I can see UT reforming something akin to the old South West Conference. They would be the undisputed center around which all else revolves. Their LHN can become the basis of a SWC network (UT would get the lions share of the revenue.)

The New Southwest Conference would need another marque school. Notre Dame's agreement to only join the ACC expires in 2025 the same year the Big Xii GOR expires. Could UT and ND establish some kind of conference with the remnants of the Big Xii and some more eastern teams, ie, UConn, Cinci, etc.?

I'm fairly well convinced that Texas is just too big for the B!G, ACC, SEC, or PAC. In the "Eyes of Texas" at least.

A new SWC or a conference built around UT/ND would probably generate enough revenue to keep UT and ND happy and comparable to the other conferences

Lol,

Except ND has signed the GOR with the ACC and the ACC network through 2036. You think ND wants to subordinate the ND TV network to a new SWC?

There are reasons that conferences avoid the University of Texas.

What was the first 15 minutes of college game day season preview?
quote:
The argument in 2016 will be, "Does the B1G and SEC each deserve two spots in the CFP? Can Clemson sneak in above one of the SEC teams? Michigan and OSU will be a defacto playoff game, but is that fair if they are better than the other teams in the CFP?" The worst thing the Big 12 will have to endure is listening to the talking heads discuss how much Stanford belonged last year instead of OU, which will be paired with them acknowledging that the CFP playoff committee won't make the same mistake again in 2016. Hear that Big 12? The season hasn't even begun yet, and your conference is already exempt from the CFP. You had your chance, and you blew it. You thought you were talented because you only watched your conference. You had no perspective.

Poor, effing Big 12. Kirk said it best. The only reason you are talked about is because the CFP committee doesn't want to hurt your feelings.

Your fuggin feelings.

How true is that! I remember having arguments on TexAgs during our realignment where people truly were ignorant of the vastly superior football played in the SEC. Watching only Big XII football made them have a very faulty perspective.

It's almost boring to watch most Big XII games now. TCU and Baylor had some entertainment value at least. But watching Clemson curb stomp the Sooners AGAIN drove home the disparity.

Both of y'all are exactly right. About ten years ago a dear friend of mine was transplanted from Georgia to Texas. He'd always laugh at everyone propping up the big 12. He told me repeatedly, the venues and quality of sports in the SEC are beyond compare. He was 100% right

When I first started dating The Hubs, I would watch SEC games for him and send him score updates on his pager when he was on duty on game day. Remember one LSU/Auburn game that was just a slugfest back and forth, nail biter to the final seconds. And then of course all of the multiple OT games Arkansas always has. Bad for the heart and blood pressure, but just really exciting.

My first live SEC game was the Razorbacks against the sips in the Cotton Bowl in 2000. At first, I was a little taken aback by the Hog fans. They were fired up and were yelling at the sip fans. Pretty damn raucous crowd for a 10:00 AM New Year's Day game time. Applewhite went down (untouched) and Chris Simms came in. The rout was on and the sip fans were largely gone by the 4th quarter.

Fun.

Was that the game where the sips had negative yards rushing, maybe -27 yards or something?

I knew some sips that were so butthurt over that game. Just big pouty babies.

I was in school during Arkansas leaving for greener pastures (exiting the SWC) I remember shouts of SEC from their faithful when they defeated us in extra inning baseball. At the time I thought, what a mistake. I was a foolish child and did not know

A few posters raised an interesting question about the fortunes of ou and the sips. 2 factors to consider:

1. The current revenue model could change
2. The okie lite albatross could drop

If cable goes to ala-carte, then the sips and ou would both become much more attractive in terms of revenue generated.

If somehow ou finds a way to cut the chord to oSu, then their outlook changes dramatically.

The point is, we really do not know and cannot project the future after 2025. But like Bonfire pointed out, we were the serf. Now we are a player.

A good anology would be like that Movie "Kingdom of Heaven." We went from being a blacksmith in a crappy, cold place to a knight in one of the richest cities in the world (at the time).
Agsuffering@bulaw

I think the "What will happen to ou" question is especially pressing. I hate to say this, but I think ou is on course to ride out the conference instability through 2025.

They quit playing FCS opponents and now play at least one true challenge game a year. Their big problem, as Bonfire pointed out, is TV money. But keep winning, they should keep recruiting, in spite of a disadvantage in the arms race.

They have made up for losses in TX by recruiting CA, FL, NC, and the midwest. Per Rivals:

Year.........4/5*s from TX.....from other states

2017*...... 6................8
2016....... 2................9
2015........5................8
2014........1................8
2013........3................4
2012........2................9

I suspect they are paying the kids from the coasts. If so, this is the time to do it. The point though is that ou is not hurting for talent.

We need to further step up our building projects and spend them into oblivion- Reagan won the cold war with the same strategy.

We also need to jack with the true cost of attendance stipends. Currently, we pay around $3,500 a year. ou and the sips pay about a grand more. Bama pays over $5,300 a year. We should be paying the same amount. We need to run these turkeys into the ground.

Big12...it's all here!

quote:

You are right, we are overrated. And why are we overrated? Because year in and year out, we bump up our rankings by beating the **** out of the weak teams in this garbage conference only to get exposed when we play a real team.

I for one am sick and ****ing tired of us getting our hopes up and thinking we're actually a good team when we beat up on the likes of Sand Aggie, **** U, and the Reindeer bangers only to get pantsed by legit contenders and stand there trying to cover our flaccid micro-**** while the entire world looks on and laughs.

**** this conference... Let's go find a real one while they still might want us. Let's go get a staff that's hungry and determined and let's fight our way back to the top. Let's actually earn it instead of sneaking through the season and hoping to pull a fast one at the end

But they still have some major defensive problems. In the Big XII, somebody can light them up, putting a lot of points on the board. They might still win at the last minute, but their stats will be atrocious.

From my perspective, the best outcome would be for the Sooners to win the Big XII and get stiffed in the play-off selection because they don't deserve it after the two bad losses. Throw in their performance last year against Clemson and it is really questionable whether they will be able to hang with the Big Boys in the play-offs.

I'm thinking, no.
