I was just kidding.

They seem like really nice people who have an interest in doing good for the community here.

Firing Art Briles must be on the table for Baylor.
-- Mac Engel, Fort Worth Star Telegram

Quotes:

There are now but two solutions for Baylor and its Board of Regents:
1. Hunker down with head football coach Art Briles and be prepared to ride this hurricane of negative publicity and hope that nothing else happens.
2. Fire him.

The board is expected to keep Briles but two sources indicated firing him is being considered as the final solution to a scandal that continues to be a nightmare for the entire school for what is now approaching a full calendar year.

On Wednesday afternoon, ESPN's Outside the Lines released yet another damning report detailing more criminal behavior on the part of the Baylor football team under Briles.

I loved this little nugget from the comments section on one of these articles:

I'm a sophomore here at Baylor, met Judge Starr myself. He is a wonderful, God-loving man who is doing his best to make sure that sexual assault does not happen at this university. All freshman attend a 3-hour seminar at the beginning of the year about the dangers of sexual assault and how to prevent it. Please do not let these awful scandals paint a bad view of all the students and faculty at Baylor University; this is a wonderful school full of kind, Christian people.

If you don't want the scandals to paint a bad view; get rid of the painters don't just ignore them and pretend the ugly mural they have created is hanging above you.

This may go without saying, but if the allegations in the OP re: McCaw are even REMOTELY true, this is going to be a HUGE problem for the university. You don't say "nothing can be done" about a student who's playing sports. An AD can suspend someone for farting in their dorm room if they want.

The first question the AD asks is: have you contacted the police? Let me get them on the phone and get someone in here asap. I will leave and you can use my office for talking to them.

Now, here's the one sticking point that would POSSIBLY get Baylor out of some trouble: if the victim does not want to contact the police and make a report. There may be student code of conduct issues there, but I, as an AD or even Baylor President, am not willing to confront an accused without some written affidavit or something else under oath -- especially if AFTER I brought in the accused and he denied the allegations.

But to say there was nothing that could be done is in itself criminal.

Based on the MusingsofStef blog it seems it is more than just the athletes. Seems pervasive that they try to ignore or deflect any potential sexual assault issue that could damage the "image" of a Christian university and leaves the wrecked women to fend for themselves.

Best part of that quote...

But when it DOES happen... what does he do?

It doesn't. It does, however, paint an extremely bad view of the football team, the athletic department and the coaches.

The students and the faculty are the ones really suffering. I mean, apart from the dozens of women on campus who have been raped by athletes and then swept under the rug by the police, coaches and Starr himself.

Exactly... it baffles me that there hasn't been something to set off the students/faculty to force the administration into action. Look at what happened at mizzou... for far more ridiculous incidents.

...They certainly train the flock well at Baylor.

I graduated high school in 1999. The bulk majority of my friends went either to TAMU or UT. A few stragglers went to TTU or Baylor.

The true idiots found themselves at TTU, with the above average idiots at Baylor. The above average idiots felt special for avoiding TTU, and were incredibly grateful to Baylor for providing them with a place where they felt like they "made it".

Visiting Baylor while in college, I was beyond surprised at the sense of entitlement, arrogance, and piousness that exuded from campus. I went once and never returned--same for TTU.

Thank God that Im an Aggie.

I know for a fact that at least 2 ladies I knew had sexual assault "issues" (calling it that ONLY because I don't know the full facts) that centered around fraternity parties at Baylor. This was in the late '80s, but I don't know if it was something that happened regularly, or whether things like that routinely went on at other campuses.

I will say this in partial defense of Baylor: FSU got away with dismissing sexual assault BS when it came to Winston. If ESPN's reporting of FSU during that period wasn't as tough as it is now on Baylor, their credibility (what their is of it) will suffer and Baylor could easily suggest selective reporting.

True, but I don't remember the sheer numbers of cases at FSU. We're talking a dozen now?

The rest of the Big Idiot conference should vote to abstain from buying tickets to events in Waco, or selling tickets to Baylor groups. Seems like the only way Baylor responds is if it hurts their pocketbook.

But then again, it's a bunch of idiots bending the knee to sips.

While true, entirely true, as far as we know Winston, and ONLY Winston, was under investigation for a single incident of sexual violence, one petty theft, and a few incidents stemming from just pure dumbassery. And as callous as that sounds, it sounds like the focus was pretty entirely on Winston and his actions. It doesn't sound like it was widespread amongst the team or the rest of the athletic department. And they got absolutely raked over the coals for it, and rightly so. Baylor and their rape culture should be getting 10x the media scrutiny that FSU and the Tallahassee PD got. If anyone in Waco has the unmitigated gall to scream "selective reporting".....then I don't have words to describe that level of depravity. .
