It sounds like to me that Ced was lucky he is not being charged with Burglary of a Habitation which is a FELONY. If his intent was to go in that home and take what he believed was his television back then that meets the criteria for Burglary. Also there is the charge of criminal mischief for breaking the door. Thirdly, you can look into Engaging in Organized Crime (a Felony) since 4 people were involved. Coach Brown needs to do the right thing. If Ced was involved in this then he needs to be kicked off the team.

Just trying to do the math here. What was Benson's signing bonus out of high school? My guess is that it was in the neighborhood of $50,000, because that's the going rate for a non-pitcher drafted in the 12th round. Sometimes, the bonus will fluctuate up or down, depending on what kind of additional benefits are negotiated (like paying for college). In addition, minor leaguers get a minimal salary during the season.

Now, is it true that he also drives a Cadillac Escalade, as rumored? A large screen plasma TV is about $10,000. You can see where I'm going with this can't you? THE MAN IS A FINANCIAL GENIUS! What's he doing playing football? To get that kind of return on $50k in just three years is amazing! I can't wait until the Cedric Benson Financial Planning software package comes out. Considering the incident happened on October 7th, Mack already missed his opportunity to discipline Benson in a meaningful way -- suspending him for a game that actually means something.

But we wouldn't want to injure our chances of beating OU just to send a message, now would we?

Bensen, though gifted and at times brilliant, has been something of a washout in the eyes of the sips.

He is, by all means, redeemable, but I don't think the climate in Austin is one of forgiveness and long term vision right now, especially with studs waiting in the wings. Old Yeller is feeling the heat and he can't really devote time to Ced.

He won't publicly jettison Ced, because that might look bad to recruits and their parents -- super stud falls on face and coach turns on him.

I suspect Ced will languish, then opt to pursue his baseball career fulltime. That's a better PR move all the way around.
