My fiance and I went to visit her family before the game on Saturday at their hotel, the Holiday Inn Park Plaza right off of Loop 289. This just so happens to be the same hotel where the tech football team stayed on Friday night and spent all day Saturday, prior to the game. I was sitting in the bar area in the hotel atrium with my fiance and her grandmother and grandfather looking over wedding ideas and a young man walked in wearing Texas Tech Football clothes. He walked right over to our table and "booed" us, sat down and said "&*%@ing Aggies". The grandparents and fiance were astonished and even more disgusted when I informed them that it was none other than tech's starting quarterback.

As we continued to watch the UT/KSt. game more and more players funneled in, until the whole team was gathered in the area. We, being only 4 people in maroon, politely removed ourselves and offered some of the standing players our table, and they all pretended that they didn't see us standing there. Honest story. Very classless, and I had to apologize to my future grandparents for the harsh words they heard.

I don't know, you could have probably explained it away to the fact that they were hung over from an all night drinking binge with Leech.

Um, Welker, not that I want to get you on my case or anything, and I'm not exactly sure what "heresay" is, but there are all sorts of reasons why what this guy reported isn't hearsay.

Hearsay is a statement, other than one made by the declarant while testifying at trial, offered to prove the truth of the matter asserted. If you get past the fact that this guy posting isn't "under oath", what he's stating is what's called a "present sense impression", in that he's describing an event while it took place. This includes what the potty-mouth in question said to his future grandparents-in-law.

For what it's worth, in reading this story for most of us it comes down to deciding whether to believe it or not. A lot of people aren't gonna have a tough time swallowing a story that involves young, drunk dudes behaving badly either before of after a win - it's happened before.

The only difference is I have credible university sources to vouch for what I say, this guy's source is himself and his grandma, give me a break.

You're lucky you didn't get "the shocker".

Someone tell me why the Tech football team would be housed in a hotel for a home game? I understand the pros do this, but I never heard of Tech doing it before. Seems like a waste of money.

If he wanted to impress gramps, he should've gone over and thrown a drink or something in the face of a football player.

Last weekend, as I was waiting to turn left on MLK to get to my parking garage, this nice looking old couple in K-State purple was waiting to cross the street in front of me. I waved them across, and as soon as they got in the middle, I lined up on the as S in KansAS State and gunned it. You should have seen the look on their faces right before they were Buicked. That'll teach'em not to trust old Horns.

Thanks for the info. Amazing. Don't get me wrong...I love college football and believe we need to support it with as many resources as we can....but to rent a hotel for your players for a HOME game is just plain wasteful.

Tramp - UT's been doing it for at least fifteen years. They used to stay at the Doubletree at I35 and 290 across from Pappadeaux. For one thing, it makes it possible to do bed checks on them, and to see that they eat at the right time. Our players aren't isolated in a dorm.

I know A&M has been for a while.

Since all-athlete dorms are now NCAA forbidden, it allows the coaches to keep all the players together for bed checks, etc, the night before the game.

I'm pretty sure Tech started staying in a hotel for home games when Leach arrived. They also go see a movie on those nights Fridays at the Movie 16 (I thought I read this somewhere before and didn't believe it until I saw them unload off of the buses there twice the past couple of years).

yeah I saw them at the movies before the UT game last year.

After sleeping on it, I've decided that the milktoast who started this thread should've gone to the hotel manager and started screaming his head off.

Ultimately, the manager would've gotten a coach or something involved. Then the weenie could tell the coach that he wanted to point out the offending player/players.

They'd go to the atrium, then the wuss could really go off, totally losing it and screaming and hollering and poking the coach in the chest with his finger as he hollered.

The coach, being a leader of men, would have to stand there quietly and take it while his players watched him getting dressed down.

The wiener ends by saying that he's going to the university president Monday and that the coach is going to have hell to pay because some of the cars in the parking lot looked a little too nice for football players to be driving.

That, I think, would've been funny, too.
