I hate it when refs decide games, Rice did NOTHING illegal...

There are three rules in leaping according to the rule book:

1. No player can use another player to boost himself to try to block an attempt. (Not broken then)

2. No player cannot line up greater than 1 yard behind the line of scrimmage and run and jump to try to block an attempt. (Rule broken)

3. No player can land on another player after he has jumped to try to block an attempt. (Rule broken)

If you follow the rule book, then it was a penalty, but he was clearly not trying to use another player to gain advantage.

I totally disagree, who did he land on?

I assume the rule is there so that you can't leap and then, say, land on someones back or shoulders...making yourself 11 feet tall.

He did barely skim somebody's rear on the way down. In no way was he gaining an advantage or doing what the rule is meant to stop.

Horrible call.

I liken that call to pass interference. The rule is, you can't tackle the receiver before the ball gets there...otherwise, you've broken the rule. But if the ball is uncatchable (i.e. no advantage was gained), then they wave it off.

i agree, i can see making the call if he actually touched the ball, but he wasn't even close...

I agree with mattgid03. Although the rule is very vague and most of the time doesn't come into the play, the ref made the right call. it would be interesting to see how many times in the past this rule has been broken but not called.

This should have gone as a non-call and I don't think anyone would have complained. Guess the game was the NFL's birthday gift to Dungy.

Nobody would've even thought to complain about that.

Tom Tupa should consider a career in Hollywood!

Holy geeezee...I had no idea what you guys were talking about until I started thinking "Did the Colts actually come back to win"?

I turned the game off after Barber's INT / TD. This is the first I've heard of it.

Did you see how f-ing HIGH HE JUMPED?! Damn, that's some ups for a big man! I bet the ref didn't see him jump and just saw how hig he was and thought there's no way he got up there w/o some help.

Oh, and yeah, it was a bad call, but I don't think the Bucs would have scored. They had hardly any offensive players left, and hadn't moved the ball in a while. Still, you're right, it sucks when the refs blow the game like that.

I can sense the slightest human suffering.
Sensing anything now?

Regardless of whether he landed on someone or not, don't forget about this

The call appears to have been legit. A dumb rule, but a good call. The officiating seemed pretty horrible all around, though. Was this the first game in history to have two 2-minute warnings?

TB got their fair share of bogus calls, like the running into the punter call where the Indy guy was just laying on the ground and Tupa performed an academy award winning flop job on top of him...........

It was a correct call, by the book. Is it a crappy game for one of the most amazing games in history to end? Of course.

And that second field goal was a work of art too.

On Indy's last TD, WTF was the corner thinking on the 50 yard bomb to Harrison?

grego, thought the same thing. Also, why would the Safety get pulled out of coverage, they should have had a deep safety preventing the over the top pass, but for some reason the safety bit on a short in route by the TE.
