I noticed in the replies to that tweet some people suggesting no one does less with more than Barnes.

That seems to be a common theme in Austin, doesn't it?

Is that supposed to be some sort of shot? Kennedy's not going anywhere, much to the chagrin of 90% of Aggieland.

But sources have long told CBSSports.com that Wichita State's Gregg Marshall and VCU's Shaka Smart will be among the obvious candidates that will be seriously considered.

At this point, Sips HAVE TO PAY. Huge contract.
Otherwise, Bellmont jokes will grow exponentially.

Good.

Wish list:

Below is a list of 10 coaches, in no particular order, who would be a good, and realistic, fit to replace Barnes after his 17-year tenure in Austin.

Gregg Marshall, Wichita State: The hottest name in college basketball coaching right now, Marshall will not be short on offers this offseason. Alabama has already reportedly opened its coffers to tempt him with a $3 million a year offer, and many other programs will make their pitch for the Shockers head coach. If it comes down to $3 million, that may be too rich for even Texas Barnes made $2.55 million in 2014-15 -- but Marshall may be the best option on the market. He's led the Shockers to a NIT championship and a Final Four in his tenure, transforming Wichita State into a national program by developing late-blooming talent.

Archie Miller, Dayton: For the second straight offseason the Flyers have extended Miller; this time this new contract pushes his deal through 2022. But you can be sure the 36-year-old head coach will still receive plenty of interest from schools with openings. Miller has led Dayton to two straight NCAA tournament appearances and five tournament wins in that stretch. In four years at Dayton, Miller is 90-47. Miller is the younger brother of Arizona head coach Sean Miller.

Larry Krystkowiak, Utah: Perhaps the quietest, but certainly the longest name, of all of Texas' potential options, Krystkowiak has done a remarkable job turning around the Utah program. The Utes won just six games in Krystkowiak's first season. But since, he's led Utah to two postseason appearances and a spot in the Sweet 16 this year. Previously, Krystowiak coached at Montana, leading it to two NCAA tournament appearances. Krystowiak served as the Milwaukee Bucks head coach during the 2007-08 season and also served as an assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets. He was also the head coach of the 2010 USA U-18 men's national team. Krystowiak has the type of varied resume, with professional experience, Patterson values.

Chris Mack, Xavier Term this one as unlikely, but Mack is one the better young coaches in the country. He's been at Xavier his alma mater for six years and could perhaps be looking for a new challenge. In his tenure with the Musketeers, he's led them to the Sweet 16 three times.

Shaka Smart, VCU What would a list be without Smart? The 37-year-old head coach has been among the hottest names in coaching since he helped lead the Shockers to the Final Four in 2011. Since then, he's fielded and turned down many inquiries from other schools, but perhaps Texas can be the school that sways him away from VCU. If that's the direction the Longhorns want to go, that is.

Mark Few, Gonzaga Another long shot, Few goes on the list right alongside Smart as a guy who's always stated he's happy where he is. But Few is even more entrenched at Gonzaga, he's built a powerhouse in the northwest with his own niche and reasonable expectations. It will be difficult for any school to pull Few away from Gonzaga. But if any school could, it would be Texas and its deep pockets and talent-rich recruiting area.

Buzz Williams,Virginia Tech Williams will be on the list for a lot of major-conference coaching jobs, and Texas will be sure to take a long look too. A Texas native, Williams has had plenty of success at Marquette and is used to recruiting in Texas he was an assistant at Texas A&M. Only problem is, Williams just finished his first season at Virginia Tech. Would he be willing to jump ship after one year? Who knows, but he's done so in the past when he was the head coach at the University of New Orleans.

Tony Bennett, Virginia Let's get this out of the way first: Bennett has a very good job in the best basketball conference in America. But would he be willing to look at Texas? Maybe. If he chose to, Texas would be silly not to at least give him a long glance. He's one of the best young coaches in the country and already perhaps the top defensive mind. What he's done at Virginia has been remarkable. At Texas, with the talent the program could bring in, expectations would skyrocket.

Josh Pastner, Memphis Memphis is one of the top mid-major jobs and Pastner is a coach up to that label. In six seasons at Memphis, he's led the Tigers to four NCAA tournament appearances and three conference championships. He's also an excellent recruiter he's a John Calipari and Lute Olson disciple, after all. However, the Tigers struggled this season, taking some of the shine off Pastner. Plus, and this is kind of hard to acquire in just six years, he's already cultivated a bit of a reputation for being a great recruiter that doesn't win perhaps as much as he should.

Steve Lavin, Unattached He and St. John's agreed to part ways today, so he's certainly available. He's had a good history of success and certainly brings name recognition to. Lavin is a strong recruiter -- he's proven it on two coasts -- and a well-liked coach, so it could be a hire that would appeal to many at Texas.

Hmmmm. Smart + Strong. It's like a Stuart Smalley t-shirt in the making. They need to hire a coach named Good next.
