Are the ponies racist?

Nobody has any original ideas anymore. They stole this idea from Berkeley's Young Conservatives, although at least Berkeley's admin didn't shut it down.

While I think it's a bit over the top, their idea is to challenge the notion that skin color should matter in anything, whether it is as trivial as the cost of a cookie or admissions to college. Shame on SMU's admin for silencing these kids.

Critical thinking must be an upper level course at SMU. AA isn't about race, it's about diversity, which is about race. That, my friends, is circular logic, or more appropriately circular illogic.

The point of AA is to fix historical wrongs. The point of this sale was to humiliate minorities at SMU.

What really surprised me was the fact that SMU has a black student.

That's what kills me about those who defend affirmative action. Apparently, white people are completely homogeneous and offer nothing to diversity. I'm the same as every white person who grew up in Highland Park driving a Beamer and carrying Gucci bags to school despite the fact that I grew up in West Texas working in the oil fields during the summers and helping out in political campaigns starting at the age of 16. But if I were hispanic (actually, the funny thing about it is I am half hispanic through grandparents on both sides) and had grown up in HP I'd be "more diverse" than I currently am.

And to the guy who said that it was offensive, that's the freaking point! Affirmative Action offends all of our American ideals and should offend those who are affected by the patronizing idea that they can't get ahead without a leg up from whitey. I'd be offended if I were a minority.

However, anyone offers me a discount on a cookie and I'm takin' it!

This is political protest at its best. The fact that it riled some people means that it worked. If it had been the minority groups protesting something like this, it would have been praised as political activism by young Americans. The point of this was not to humiliate anyone but to make a statement. Obviously it worked.

White people don't get black people. They don't understand what black people have to put up with. Yes, we are all people, but some of us start out with something against us. It may be poverty or perhaps it may be race. There is still racism in this country. This was a gross lack of sensitivity.

Loyal - "Thinking" is an upper level course at SMWho. When their pro team in the early eighties was winning a lot of games, I went to the dank caverns of Texas Stadium for a UT game. They had signs hung around the stadium like, "Our maids went to UT" and "Hockaday wouldn't allow us to go to UT". Most of the HP SMU preppies and bowheads were raised by black maids so they consider themselves experts in race relations.

There is actually some truth to that. The Hockaday counselors STRONGLY discourage their students away from "public schools", and only towards private ones (for some reason, their ignorant, elitist counselors think some dumpy private school is a better education than any state universities.

When they host college fairs, they will actually separate the state schools from the privates. They typically put the state schools WAY AWAY (like in the gym) from the main area, which is 100% private colleges.

And of course, they feed the admission reps from the private schools a meal, while they might give the state schools a cookie and some lemonade.

Berkeley Conservatives.....?! Isn't this an oxymoron?
