Destroying ou in the Cotton Bowl ended any bdf narrative that the SEC was weak and the bdf powerful because we couldn't succeed there and made the bdf look like a bunch of underperformers at best and pretenders at worst.

And I get the feeling that as much as has been made about OU's beating Bama in the bowl game last year, it will be the LAST time Bama or any other SEC team goes into a bowl game "not caring".

When the Carnegie Foundation elevated the University of Houston to Tier One status in 2011, the designation made the university one of only three public Tier One research universities in the state of Texas, along with the University of Texas and Texas A&M.

Not only did Tier One status verify the university’s excellence, it also helped reap economic and educational benefits for the city, the region and the state. The University of Houston alone generates over $3 billion for the city of Houston every year. Simply put, when the city of Houston’s namesake university does well, so does the city of Houston.

While Hance was waiting for Powers to wave his magic wand and get tech to Tier One status, UofH hired a great President and went out and got it done.

Just sayin', give some credit where credit is due.

Remember that article is from West Virginia's perspective.

You would have thought Saban realized that after Florida lost to Louisville in a very similar scenario. When it gets down to it, you can't make the players care about something they aren't interested in.

Luck is one of these "emperor has no clothing" sports guys. Has this great reputation but no one ever looks at what he actually accomplished while in charge:

World Football League - defunct
NFL Europe - defunct
Houston Sports Authority - drowning in debt
West Virginia Athletics - shambles

yet he remains a 'genius'

Agree, W. But hey, he started selling booze in the stadium to keep his fan base there during football games.

Wonder who got the moonshine concession??

HTown, the problem with that Florida team is that they didn't really show up for a lot of games that season. Alabama showed up, I think they were just still in shock from Auburn.

He brought Championships to Htown via the Dynamo. He got the idea of beer sales at WVU from UH cuz he saw our revenue due to shared stadium. Problem was the Dynamo increased our beer prices from $4.50 to $7 overnight. But that is a 1st world problem...or maybe a 3rd World problem if we are talking West Virginia.

Zero sum game with Saban's players. Either they are playing for the National Championship or not. He got destroyed by Utah in the Sugar Bowl as well

I always heard from my Dad ('45) that the Cougar High name came from when UofH was first formed the held some classes at the old Austin High School.

WVU is absolutely the last place you want to sell beer. They are one of the vilest group of hillbillies to walk the earth and they are all drunk off their ass before they even get in sight of the stadium.

That being said, after reading that article, I can see why they drink. It sounds like pretty much everyone thinks they are a cancer.

ABATTBQ11,

You have decent points, but you're looking at it wrong.

BDF expansion isn't about what's best for the BDF. It's about what's best for texas.

Expansion isn't about adding media markets. It's about not poaching texas's recruiting territory. DFW is already divided, but texas is the only BDF team with a major presence in Houston. UH would change that. TCU and WVU would not.

UH could have potential for sustained sucess and a large fan base, but that's just more competition for texas.

Wow, so cougar high boy is saying uh is the only football stadium that sells beer at games and Luck stole the idea from him? Never been to Colorado!s stadium I guess huh?

More of his antics at trying to be relevant!

Not saying UH is the only school that sells beer (we did blaze that trail in Texas though.) What I am saying is that Oliver Luck while working for the Dynamo and saw the beer receipts at Robertson Stadium took that idea to West Virginia...along with Holgersen.

When you witness greatness (whether is it cold Coog Brew or innovative offenses) it is hard not to poach said greatness...especially when it is right there in front of you. You're welcome and Go Coogs!

The BDF probably let some sort of Dallas bias/asshurt keep them from viewing UH as a viable conference team member. Why in the holy f-ck would a so-called major conference not want to lock up a market like Houston? If you're the BDF you should at least try to solidify your hood in the largest state by conference membership.

Oh well that ship has sailed. Houston has been SEC leaning for a good while, but there is no question that Houston is 100% SEC. Sorry Cogarus and Rice. Frankly no one in the SEC Has any f-cks to give. And the brain trusts at BDF HQ in Dallas seem to be too anti-Houston to build a stronger conference by locking down the borders.
