Colt McCoy's wife talked about the exact same thing when she ratted on tu's program. Meals, cars, hunting trips all provided by boosters that have nothing to do with the actual program (and its employees).

But that article reads like a Fridy Night Lights script.

College majors like Exercise Science and General Education have long been assailed by critics as crip-course degrees, but shadow boosters see them as a vital way to perpetuate the cycle. If a player finishes out his eligibility and has no feasible future in the pros, he might return home and become a nearby high school coach. It doesn't matter if it's junior high or seven-on-seven camps; each means a new brand ambassador for the program.

If that's true, he's doing it wrong.

He's giving $500 to someone they know they aren't going to get. It's a courtesy $500.

This story would have been better had former recruits, turned General Studies students, turned former players who go back home, turned future coaches of new future recruits who have mommas ... and is banging (satisfying) momma for future recruit in a Forest Gump-like momma way.

Interesting article, but not new news. The sips and sooners have been doing that stuff for decades. Ricky Williams' baseball contract. Augie Garrido, Trip Couch, and Centex Beverages. Ol' Freak Nasty getting hired by a big money sip donor. Vints. Benson. The Yellow Rose. It's expensive to go clubbing in Austin for 4 years.

Yep, there is a bunch of truth to this statement. On the Statewide Summer Coaches tour, that every single BCS conference team performs, that is where the business gets done. Sure.

This thing reads just like Jesus Shuttlesworth and his Big Cigar. It is completely plausible that this author, whom everyone knows is an author, was able to interact with all these bag men in nearly every SEC city. Sure.

I like how the "Big Cigar" uses sweeping generalizations to implicate the entire SEC, but also goes way out of his way to say that a Big 12 team (who was recently under fire in the media for exactly this kind of thing) isn't likely to have done it.
