Trent Richardsons 2011 Yukon ... what have we got ourselves into?

Okay, I'm as excited as hell to be going to the SEC.

Nevertheless, on the very night we have the SEC celebration, I'm reading stories like this:

At Alabama, Trent Richardson OWNS a 2011 Yukon:

http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/docs-richardsons-2011-yukon-with-large-rims-29854

At Tennessee, former tu player and coach Willie Mack Garza was paying for illegal recruiting trips from Lache Seastrunk:

I am reminded of what Charles Barkley said: in the SEC, if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying.

So my question is this: can we maintain our honor and compete with this conference for whom 40k cars are apparently de rigeur?

See Adrian Peterson's automobile situation while he was at ou. Nuff said.

You just left a conference where one of your colleagues (OU) invented cheating years ago and then perfected it to an art form.

And I doubt that every really good player in the SEC drives a 2011 Yukon.

I was not aware that the Big 12 was so 'squeaky clean'.
I thought a LOT of dirty stuff had gone on there.
Did it any of it ruin A&M's honor while they were playing alongside those cheating teams?

1) That sort of proves my point. OU has been cheating and winning the conference.

2) The SEC is filled with OUs.

Are you suggesting that the cheating that goes on in the Big 12 is anything like that of the SEC, Razorback Russ? Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Alabama ...

Yeah ... Iowa State and Baylor and Kansas State and A&M and tu are cheating like those teams.

Go ahead and show the evidence that you have for that kind of stupid talk.

Players do take out student loans and use them for "academic" reasons, especially when they know they are gonna hit it big in the NFL. Not against the rules. There were about 10 players I remember on the bama squad that had tricked out rides.

Can't say that there is nothing to this, but I do know that UA is VERY thorough on compliance with things like vehicles.
There are pages of information that scholarship athletes have to fill out about vehicles. The school then investigates. I am willing to bet this was pretty thoroughly vetted by the school. Saban is very proactive.

Consider the source in SbB. A&M fans, you wanted maximum visibility in the SEC, well get ready for this kind of thing. Bloggers like SbB and Clay Travis just trying to make a buck and generate web hits.

I am pretty sure I saw Reggie Mcneal driving a nice maroon hummer when I was in school...

Hilarious.

There are photos online of Trent Richardson violating NCAA rules and you're telling me that Saban is very proactive.

So are you saying that T. Richardson DOES NOT own this Yukon with the big rims?

It's not against the rules. Student athletes are allowed to take out student loans and use it on whatever they want. It's risky but if you are pretty sure to hit it big in the NFL its not a big deal

Bama is the Oklahoma of the SEC. They've been doing these types of things for decades. Bud Wilkinson = The Bear They've had major sanctions against their program twice just since we joined. The buying of Albert Means cost them over 20 scholarships and a 2 year bowl ban. I admire their on the field style of play. But you've traded OU for Bama off the field.

What rule(s) is/are he breaking? Owning a nice ride is not illegal.

What we are saying is just because Richardson is black doesn't mean his family can't afford to buy him a nice vehicle.

Texas Tea,

Have you not been keeping up?

It isn't just Richardson but Nico Johnson, Julio Jones etc...

Hate to break it to you, but this is more common in the Big12 than you might think. "Student Athletes" can take out new car loans. If they don't actually make it to the NFL, weeeellll maybe that loan gets written off.

I've even seen players at a non-AQ school roll up to a post-game party in matching brand new sports cars (5 of them) to take turns visiting with someone in big fancy RV outside the stadium. I'm sure he was just telling them "good game" and inquiring about their academic progress.

LOL, I've heard about 4 different model years for that car.

It seems like it gets newer every time someone posts the picture.

Since you're officially in the SEC, the pure hatred for all teams isn't far behind. Before you joined, everyone talked of camaraderie and brotherhood. Well, it's not different than any other conference, probably much much worse.

There are bigtime college athletes every year at EVERY school in America that drive tight automobiles. I can guarantee you I can find a sweet car in the A&M, Baylor, or Okie St. player parking lots.

MGMTideFan,

That's well and good. What about T. Richardson's relationship with Tom Al-Betar and T-Town Menswear?

What about Tennessee illegally paying for Lache Seastrunk's recruiting visit?

What about Cam Newton's 200 thousand dollar signing bonus?

You all are so mired in it that you can't see it. But A&M holds itself to a higher code of conduct.

That's the reason for this thread.

Do the other reports contain a police report filed in Chilton County court records in which Richardson states that he is the owner of the car?

No I haven't been following. What illegal activity have you uncovered? How about those vehicles driven by athletes in the Big 12...how's that list coming along?

Well, when if the NCAA actually finds something, then maybe you have a point Ansel. Until then, I am not too worried about it. You seem pretty quick to declare guilty, and that is fine. Just be prepared, SbB will be snooping in your trash as well. Hopefully that higher standard you claim is indeed present.

I can't find any instance when Saban has received any NCAA sanctions for paying players, players receiving illegal benefits, etc.

Since when is a college athlete not allowed to own a nice vehicle? I must've missed that rule change. His parent(s) could very easily of bought that for him. Being black doesn't mean that a family can't afford a nice vehicle.

Can you explain to me what rule Richardson actually broke?

Just astoundingly funny.

You know, before Reggie Bush was nailed to the wall by the NCAA, there were no NCAA sanctions against Pete Carroll either.

Before Bob Stoops and the Sooners got nailed for Big Red Motors, there was no evidence that Rhett Bomar and other Sooner players were being paid for work they did not do.

Here we have EVIDENCE that Richardson, Johnson, Jones etc... broke NCAA rules and you're telling me that everything is copacetic.

I have no doubt that Mike Sherman is running a tight ship in Aggieland.
