As a naturalized US citizen, I claim nothing other than being an American. There are a ton of US citizens that claim they're Irish or German or English even though their parents and grandparents were born in the US.

33 maybe as a naturalized citizen you aren't aware of this, but referring to ones heritage is commonly done by saying "I'm X". So when I say I'm French, Irish, and German I am not claiming to be from any of those places. But the information is relevant to who I am.
The people claiming some BS connection to the other county are the ones who hyphenate it with "American". As in, "I'm Irish-American"(If you think most often uses that form you'll have the answer to who boozing was hinting at).
I'm
