I like accomplishments on the field. Nobody ever got a trophy for being ranked number 5. You'll just have to forgive me for that.

Rato,

Again, winning a trophy or whatever you're trying to change my argument is immaterial as to whether or not Texas is a national power. Did OU win a trophy last year? Are they a "national power" this year?

Texas is one of the best teams in the nation. We were last year and we are again this year. The college coaches ----- who are paid a lot of money for what they do ----- think that we are the 2nd best team in the nation.

You guys are just jealous because you all suck so badly and know that you're headed for another crappy year. God I love it.

What does it mean if you are now perennially among "others receiving votes"?

The National Championship, Big 12 Championship, and the undefeated season are reasons why OU is considered a national power now. I would not consider tu to be a national power yet. They are on the verge, and one would be a fool to say otherwise. However, you are a fool if you think that all college coaches fill out those polls. Most are done by the SIDs. When I think of national powers I think of Miami, Tennessee, Florida, FSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Michigan. Can you tell me what all of these teams have in common?

rato...you are wrong...if all the coaches and writers feel we are a national power, and if we continue to be contenders for championships, and continue to keep getting some of the best recruits, and of course keep beating you, we are a national power...period.

RATO
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No you are wrong, a national power is a power on the field not on paper. And if beating us is a standard of being a national power then you have lost all credibility. You are probably the same type of people that think Chrissy deserved to be on the cover of TM with Roger and Troy.

OU wins again. And will for at least the next 2 years. Defense wins championships, remember?

tu's "At least we beat (pick a state school of choice)" will be the moral victory of the horn's year as they sit and watch an undefeated OU & an undefeated A&M play in Kyle for the South title yet again after getting beat in the Sea of Red takes them totally out of Divisional contention and they make plans once again to play in the Holiday Bowl...
#1Texas
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There is no doubt that by beating you it doesnt make us a national power, it is just one of the fringe benefits.
Being a national power is perception, which when most of the coaches and media perceive you as one, well you probably are one. If we weren't considered a national power, we would not have had a shot at the National Championship game. You see it must suck to be an Aggie, and to not have people arguing over whether or not your are a power...we all know you aren't!

Big Money..you aren't serious...right?

It is quite apparent that you and I will never come to agreement on this subject. I'm more of a "talk the talk then walk the walk" type of person.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
You are right...and OBVIOUSLY we did walk the walk last year...11-2, played in the conference championship, won the Holiday bowl, was more than the Aggies even dreamed of accomplishing. What bowl did y'all play in last year anyways?
OOPS!!! Forgot, we finished #5 in the nation as well...and the Aggies finished where?

I'd put my money on texas this year. Their Defense is gonna be better than OU's & their offense is undoubtedly better. Their running game will win this game.

#1 texas,
with all that media attention & newfound status as a "national power", you must be one seriously insecure muther f*cker to still feel the need to come over here a rail on such an insignificant school. sucks to be you.

Where? There is no position on the tu defense that is better than OU's. None. DL? You are on crack. LB's? Only Derrick Johnson MIGHT start. Vasher is the only one who'd get time in the secondary. Please. Did you watch the Buffs run through the sips like water over the Hoover Dam? Please! They gave up 80 friggin' POINTS their last 2 games!!!

Big Money..you aren't serious...right?
Big Money is always serious. You don't think you can lose at Nebraska? AT NEBRASKA? Like they won't be fired up just remembering what happened 4 years ago? Lose that game and RRSO, you are done. Toast. And trust me, it could very easily happen. You will be pulling for Okie State again to do what sips cannot.

OU beat tu, then couldn't win at corn last season: but don't expect nutless bovines to have a reasonable working knowledge of football and football history. It just won't happen.

Big Money,
texas is going to have a very good D this year. Their DB's will be very good, as will their D line. LB's are a push. Are they going to be better than OU's? Who knows, I think they will be.

When did this turn into a thread about whether we will win the national title this year?

Legit questions:
1) Prior to last season's record, did you consider K-State a National Power?

2) 4 of the top 6 teams in the country last year did not win their conference. Are they weaklings? Were the National Powers of 2001 Maryland, Illinois, Oregon, Miami & Colorado?

Trophies are not awarded for being a National Power. It IS a perception. If someone asks who are the best college teams this year (or in general), no one tries to recall who won their conference. Hell, most fans still consider Notre Dame as a National Power.

It will be a low scoring, close game, much like last season, but I think Texas pulls it out this year. I think Benson makes the difference in the fourth quarter.

Texas: 17
OU 10

It makes me most ashamed to be a longhorn when we don't never win nothin. It was kind of sad when Mr. Mack said even HE had more champineships than itt tech, because that taint really true, unless you count the Parade O' Champines he threw.

Beelzebubba - Sorry to see you're still doing your poor imitation of SpiderAg. Anyone who wants to see how this gig is supposed to be done will have to go to hornfans.

When both OU and UT have good teams, like now, the game in Dallas is unpredictable. Only fools gamble on it except for sentimental wagers.

Bi,
It never ceases to amaze how much trash you spew when you don't have the scoreboard to back you up. I would look foolish to go on and on about how horrible OU is, about how much better UT is, about how I have a personal aversion for all things OU, and how their coach sucks. Fact is, OU took care of it on the field and all I would be doing reflecting poorly upon my alma mater. Should I point out OU's falling to OSU, even worse, I would have to stand on another school's accomplishments to back up my point.
Ask someone in grad school to complete this analogy for you. I will grant you this, even if you don't have the scoreboard or logic to back you up, you OWN the boards. Bi . . . Miami Hurricanes mouth . . . Baylor Bears game.

The folks here in CA do not see tu as a national power, especially after a mediocre Washington ran up and down the field on that "national power" defense. Hate to break it to ya sips, the only ones that have that perception of tu is their own fans.

CajunAg97,
The AP and coach's poll would contradict such an assertion. Nevertheless, your 'folks here in CA don't think UT is a national power' is compelling evidence on to the contrary.

I was sorry to hear about you gettin arrested out near that fishin lake for havin 'relations' with that dog after those campers complained about the noise. You shore did look funny a comin outa that tent with no pants on and a blond wig with the dog walkin funny. I hope they had yore brand o diapers in the pokey.

You could be (and undoubtedly aspire to be) the Jim Rome of A&M athletics on the internet (dubious praise?). I would suggest trying pejoratives with more than one syllable and cessation of cliches thought up before you were born (i.e. nutless bovine). Then again without the foregoing you will be left with " . . . . . . " nothing to say.
Wait . . . must leave work . . . . hate Bi so much . . . must make her quit pulling my strings.

I predicted an OU win over Texas on this board last year.

This year, I'm predicting...

... an OU win.

Deciding factors of the ballgame:

Play of the Texas LB's - confident that Texas will have an upgrade over last year. Conditions: favorable

Greg Davis - if he keeps going to Ced even though he only gets (let's say) 16 yards on his first 9 carries, I'll be happy. If he throws downfield on play-action, I'll be happy. If he utilizes crossing routes, passes to the fullback, and tight ends on seams up the middle, I'll be happy. Conditions: snowing in hell

Chris Simms' relaxation factor - if Simms tries to do too much, he'll force the action and give OU's crappy O too much field position. Will he relax, now that the Major is gone? Or will lameass booing Horn "fans" cause him to tighten up more than Nate Newton's cellmate's sphincter? Conditions: questionable

So I guess North Texas is a national power because they won their conference. Whatever.

I often wonder if BI realizes what a dumbass he truly is?
Bevo_Wan_Kenobi
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think 13-0 Barndung tries to be an idiot. Nobody south of the red river could be that much of one by accident.

That being said, sooners win 14-6, unless Simms has improved more than I think he has in theoff season. And for those of you who think the game between ou and a&m will be for the south title, Texas has twice the chance of beating ou that a&m does of going into their game with ou undefeated. My guess is the ags will have a loss by week two, or three at the latest.
