Report from Dolcefino.

$600K spent by a family and now the family can only live in one room because of mold.

The daughter is getting sick.

Dolcefino says there are 11 current lawsuits on mold problems alone for this builder in Harris and Fort Bend counties.

The family in this case does not want to move because the costs with moving are very high, and they don't want to move their daughter out of her school (Seven Lakes).

Also while it was not brought up in the video, it might be hard to sell the house for market value because of the mold problems.

I have a friend who recently bought a Highland and has been struggling with mold since the day she moved in.

I'm struggling to see what is so bad about this house with mold. Generally speaking, you have mold problems where you condensation problems. Most causes beyond the obvious leaks are cold conditioned air meeting warm humid air.

For houston homes that looks like a few things:
-Not nearly good enough air sealing to keep the conditioned air of the home in the conditioned space. That means windows, doors, outlets, any lighting roof penetrations, and especially ducts into the rooms
-AC system is oversized and doesn't run long enough to pull moisture out of the conditioned space
-AC system doesn't run long enough because the occupants like it warmer in the house or can't afford the AC bills

Their home looks to be made up well. Saw a bunch of mastic on the ac ducts, but no insulation right where the pointed to the mold on the rafters.

They really should look into a product like this called Aerobarrier. It'll seal up all the air intrusions in their house and reduce the interactions between the humid air and the conditioned air within the housing envelope.

Caveat: sealing your home 'tightly' means you need to put equipment in to push fresh air into the house. This is called an ERV in the south.

After watching it did seem like an HVAC issue and plumbing issues with the dishwasher, nothing to do with the builder at all

I'm also super skeptical of mold issues in general (blame social media hysterics). If they were that concerned and that impacted it wouldn't matter if they were in one room of the house because that **** is being spread everywhere by the AC. Why would they avoid the open air kitchen but be comfortable living in the one downstairs bedroom? Just weird

Wow. Highland and Tri Pointe/Trendmaker are usually at the middle and top of many communities as far as product offerings go.

Highland does a lot of 60 foot home front products.

Tri Pointe/Trendmaker does a lot of 70 foot home front products.

These are better than average builders so I am very surprised that they are having mold problems.

So sad to see someone spend $600K on a new house and the house starts to make them sick.

Big props to Dolcefino for giving them visibility.

Preach. I'd bet most extreme mold reaction folks also have a gluten sensitivity issue.
