Are 65% increases YoY the new normal?
At least the power to choose website makes it easier to compare everything.yocod said:
20% increase from Allstate. Was a member for over 10 years. I asked them to resubmit a new premium proposal or I'd shop around. They declined to resubmit a new proposal, so I left. Used Goosehead who found better coverage, with a (subjectively) better insurer, for less money. Unfortunately, I think insurance will be like electricity and you'll just have to shop for a new plan every year.

Shop all of your insurance every year!

Everyone thinks they need a new roof every time the wind blows, and we wonder why prices are following suit.

Neither of those automatically shop without you asking.
Interesting. Do insurers offer a policy that excludes roofing but that would cover things like fire and say a tornado blowing the house down?Quote:
Honestly - best to plan for self insuring at the rate things are going with the market.

I wouldn't sweat going bare on a roof, but a fire or tornado on a nice house would be a different matter. I've got an old office that I self-insure and take my chances on, but I wouldn't do it on my house.
When I talked to Goosehead about finding a lower rate they said if I had a newer roof it would drastically reduce the cost of my home owners insurance.cena05 said:
Does anyone know if insurers will take into account your roof's age or type when calculating premium?. I have a Decra stone coated steel roof that should last a very long time and I wish it was possible to get a discount on my premiums as it shouldn't need to be replaced and has superior wind and hail ratings.
