My home has new upstairs & downstairs HVAC systems, but our master bedroom tends to be hotter in the summer and colder in the winter than I'd like. Rather than crank the a/c down across the house at night, we've been contemplating instead installing a ductless mini split ac unit in the master bedroom.

My only concern is whether, if we might need to sell our house in the next few years, potential buyers tend to see a mini split unit in a master bedroom as an eyesore or as a sign of a lousy HVAC system in the house. Am I overthinking this or is this a legitimate concern? Thanks for any advice.

I had a similar problem with one room being too hot. Malek A/C in College Station looked at it and said that they could add another vent in the room for around $600. The only issue is there has to be enough room on your plenum.

I would call the company back out that installed your system and ask them for options.

I wanted to avoid the looks of a minisplit when I added a couple to my upstairs rooms. I went with a concealed duct system so all you see in the rooms themselves are normal A/C vents. You can do this fairly easily if the rooms have a closet that you can install the unit at the top of and then sheetrock around it with an access panel. They do have to be in a somewhat air conditioned space, you can't put them in the attic. You see this a lot in hotel rooms.

Have you considered putting window tint film on the windows, assuming you have direct sunlight any time during the day? It made a pretty big difference in the master bedroom at my old place, but it also had 3 6' tall windows + transoms and faced the southwest.

Solar screens are an option too.

We had a living room that had 2 walls with the afternoon sun. We added a 2nd vent from the air handler and that solved the problem.

When we had the windows replaced, we had the window in that room tinted also.

If you're willing to invest more money, you can get a recessed, ceiling-mounted mini split

You can also get a one-way throw cassette similar to the four-way throw posted above. The good thing about the one-way throw is that it fits in between the ceiling joists on most houses. With the four-way, you will have to cut joists and frame it out.
