Removing the cricket because the chimney itself will be removed. It's not high enough to clear the new ceiling/roof. Going with a ventless gas fireplace was easier and more cost effective than extending the chimney to get adequate height needed for a regular gas log set.
The old roof layout is really hard to describe. The original and added garage were built at a 45 degrees angle to the rest of the house and when the garage was added they just attached the rafters to the fascia boards that were on the side of the house so it wasn't exactly solid there. That valley leaked chronically for decades it looked like. Once everything else was off it was clear the cricket and another couple of spots also showed signs of repeat issues.
The 2002 addition has a big area with less than 1:12 slope where they put down regular architectural shingles but the only problem I've ran into were leaks from mail pops. Pretty sure they should've used a roll on product over there.
