Hi Steve, our nephew passed away a few years ago. True to form, they handled it poorly with us & his grandparents. Crazy poorly, but I don't want to get into it. Mrs. Schwack was basically done with them then, but the rest of us continued to try. Now, there is no communication other than the crappy signs they put up next to the new driveway every few days. Last week they had the old growth trees that lined the old driveway cut on their side. Not surprising since Dad had mentioned at some point wanting to always keep them. I wish they would just leave them alone but I think they are trying to bait Dad into something they can record. Dad knows not to engage at all.

Update on my side, my parents sold their place earlier this year. We had set it up for this situation and had many years next to them that I'll forever cherish. The new neighbors are great and have treated my kids like their own grandchildren. My 14 yo son is making bank this summer picking up manual work and tasks from the new people as they haven't moved to their property full time yet.

My advice on page 1 still stands. You can have the best of both worlds. Ultimately, none of us wanted to keep the place long-term. My parents were able to downsize and extend their duration of independent living by cashing in on their property.
