My point about the certified letter was that he should document all the steps he's taken to reach a legal, reasonable, safe solution, and to show that the neighbor ignored his concerns. I'd also record, take pictures, video any aggressive behavior by the dogs.

Don't get me wrong. I would not hesitate to shoot them if my family was in danger. Good luck.

I thought about the boobie trap too, problem is that's a wide deep trench, Vietnam style spikes in the bottom would be my choice but that's a lot of work.

Ok..I figured it out OP...you will lose some of your garden or have to move it.. Build a new fence about 5' from your neighbors fence, sure you lose some yard but I think this will accomplish the goal.

Killing them would be much easier but I'd never do that.

Punji sticks? I like it. May make the house hard to sell when potentials buyers see them.

I would continue to call the sheriff until something is done.

FCBlitz: If you live in a city, the best way to handle your problem is to go over the head of the animal control people and the Sheriff and have your city council person assist you. This works! If you are out in the county, some county offical should be able to help you. I got no results with similiar, but not as bad dog problems, until I called by councilman's office. That promptly solved my dog problems.

My immediate solution is to put up razor sharp concertina wire. It will be in my yard at a elevation to receive a leaping dog.

That will be my barrier while I work the channels of finding the right person to do the right thing.

Then call the sheriff back and tell him that he hasn't moved the doghouse. Law enforcement doesn't like it when you lie to them.

I've had lots of pitbulls and they've all been really good dogs. They take on the personality of their owner, just like a lot of pets. Difference is they have the ability to be very dangerous, which requires a much more responsible owner. Then they're fine.

Tell your neighbor to move his damn dog house. Nice talk is over. Also, what kind of fence are they biting holes through and also can have their paws on the top of the fence? I used to have an electric fence around the top because these dogs can easily get over a 7 foot privacy fence by jumping and climbing.

And get some pepper spray. Spray them anytime they get close. This will work. DO NOT spray them with water unless you want them to get super aggressive.

Put up a hot wire along that portion of your fence with two stands on at the top and one at the bottom.

I might also get my hand on some Ambien to put in a treat for the dogs before I was planning on showing the house or working in the backyard.

Definitely do this if you haven't already. There's a chance that your neighbor is a good guy who is just really lazy, maybe tired after getting off work, etc. Make it more inconvenient for him NOT to move the doghouses, and maybe he'll do it.

I hope you are not saying that shooting or killing the dogs if he or his family is in danger is illegal. Because it is not. If either dog comes over the fence, point and shoot.

Had some luck with the Pitbull. It looks like there is only one now. I lost my cool Sunday. Wifey and I where watering the garden...Mr. Spitals was barking aggressively with both feet on my side of the fence and his chest on top of the fence.

I grabbed my shovel swing as hard as bloody hell as I could and struct the 4x4 post next to him...KAPOWWWWWW. Scared the crap out of the dog...dumb as owner never came out to challenge me....dog now jumps down when I grab the shovel.

Call it a small victory....as long as that dog gets one paw on my side of the fence I am going to swing my shovel...not going to hit him...but I am going to get as dam close as possible.

This will not end well.

Don't you dare speak those words or some on here will claim that it is illegal.

If it were me, I would have swung at the dogs head and not at the pole next to him. If a dog has his body on your side of the fence, that is enough of a threat for me to take the dog out.

Build a taller fence. Besides keeping the dogs from being able to lean on the top of the fence, I would think it would also up your chances of selling the house because potential buyers wouldn't have to worry about the dogs either.

Call the sheriff when the dog is barking. Odds are you can get the neighbor sited for noise violations. If this happens enough, he'll move the dog house to save himself the trouble.

This is a terrible situation to be in when selling a home. I would have a real hard time selling it to a family knowing about that dog next door.

Get a lawyer involved. Probably a strongly worded certified letter would scare him enough to move the freaking doghouse.

Also, notify again the Sheriff next time the dog is causing trouble.

The shovel thing is a terrible idea. You are reinforcing to him that you are the enemy he needs to protect his pack from.
