Got a quote from them and they beat heck out of all the other quotes I received. Coverage were not exactly the same, but seemed to have what makes sense to me .

Just make sure the agent quoting you is following Fair Plan rules. You must be declined coverage by at least 2 other companies before using Texas Fair Plan.. other than that just remind you that its run by the state and is the insurance of last resort. May be cheap but no telling how claims will go.

I have it for the past 3 years on my house....insurance claims (only 1 after Ike) went very well.

Very cheap...but if you can bundle your car and health some of the big guys come out cheaper.

If you have quotes from other carriers from a standard market, you technically do not qualify for the Texas Fair Plan.

Here is a website that does an adequate job of comparing homeowners policies in Texas. The Fair Plan policy is somewhat limited in coverage and that is reflected in its relatively low premium. The biggest thing I see is that the base policy doesn't cover any water damage. And water damage claims are very common. I can't remember if an endorsement can be added to the Fair Plan policy to get water damage coverage as I don't write anything through Fair Plan. Hopefully the link will help some. Be sure to ask lots of questions to your agent to make sure you know what you are getting.

You can add it by endorsement on the HO-A but not the TDP. The max is $10,000 I believe.

I had a policy with them and was surprised how cheap it was. Never had to file a claim on it and now am using someone else.
