It's been awhile, but Aggie Women's Basketball is back in Reed Arena tomorrow night. 13 days since our last game. Our Aggies should be rested, healthy, and ready to go. Meanwhile Tennessee played 4 days ago in a 64 point blowout to Winthrop. So it'll either be us showing up rusty or us showing up rested.
However, even 2 weeks of rest might not be enough for what's walking into Reed Arena tomorrow. Tennessee is first in the country in points per game at 98.8 ppg which is just insane. They are also first in 3 pointers made in over 12 a game. They are also 10th in the country in rebounds and first in offensive rebounds. They are also first in opponent turnovers forcing over 27 a game. Meanwhile we are 201st in turnovers and last in the conference.
This is an ugly matchup on paper. Although it's better than our first sec opponent being South Carolina or LSU or Texas. This is a very tough opponent. Although there schedule has seen both extremes. They do have a win over Iowa and Florida State. They have scored over 100 6 times, and have only three times scored less than 90, and twice scored less than 80, with the fewest being 78.
A weird thing about them is they are deep and play about 10 girls and sub hockey style often. They play fast and press the entire game. If we have trouble breaking the press, this game will be rough and ugly to watch. We won't know injuries till tip-off, but if we're playing a team like this with only 9 healthy girls, then it won't be good.
And for those mad about where we are in year 3. Tennessee's Kim Caldwell is only 35 years old and is in her second season of coaching division 1 basketball. She's in her first season at Tennessee.
