Women's Hoops Opens Season at Home Versus A&M-Corpus Christi

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas The Texas A&M women's basketball team and second-year head coach Joni Taylor open the 2023-24 season at 6 p.m. on Thursday inside Reed Arena versus A&M-Corpus Christi.

The Maroon & White ended last year by becoming the first 13 seed to advance to the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. The Aggies return over 70% of the offensive production from last season, including 2023 All-SEC Freshman Team selections Janiah Barker and Sydney Bowles. Additionally, Taylor added a bevy of elite transfers during the offseason, highlighted by Aicha Coulibaly and Endyia Rogers who have multiple all-conference selections from the SEC and PAC-12, respectively.

Barker, like last year, is a bull in a china closet! She needs, in my opinion, to learn how to stay out of foul trouble! Because she acts like a " bull" she only has one shot attempt tonight and no points! Coulibaly was especially nice in the interview earlier this week, calling Barker, the superstar. You can only be a superstar if you can stay in the game! If you areonthe bench, you cannot help your team!

Barker can definitely stretch the floor and she had a great shot, but would love to see her more around the elbow than close to the 3 line! A two way game between her and Ware close to the point can be dangerous! Sort of like how Ciera Johnson and N'dea Jones would play! Really excited to see the offense we can put out each night! This is game 1, the shots will start falling more consistently! Coulibaly and Rogers are amazing pieces we added! Sahara Jones looks a step quicker too! Bowles off the bench when her shot is on can be deadly!
