Thought we'd consolidate a thread as our roster is coming into complete form! Coach Taylor loaded up from the transfer portal with huge additions such as Aicha Coulibaly who was second team all SEC and averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds, Endiya Rogers who averaged 15.9, 4 and 3, Lauren Ware a 6'5 monster post player, and Kyndall Hunter a sharpshooter from Texas.

To go along with an incredible signing class of 3 talented guards led by the number 34 recruit Kylie Marshall as well as Sole Williams, Erica Moon, and forward Vanessa Saidu

Another year into the system, a full summer of training, I'm excited to see what this team can become!

Returning Players:
Sydney Bowles
Janiah Barker
Tineya Hylton
Kay Kay Green
Jada Malone
Maliyah Johnson
Sahara Jones
Sydnee Roby

Transfers
Aicha Coulibaly - Auburn
Endiya Rogers - Oregon
Lauren Ware - Arizona
Kyndall Hunter - Texas

Signees
Kylie Marshall
Sole Williams
Erica Moon
Vanessa Saidu

This is a tournament team! Let's discuss potential!

If I'm wrong on any players, let me know and I'll edit the post! I know Mya Petticord and Eriny Kindred left to Rutgers and Florida respectively! As well as Mckinzie Green and Aaliyah Patty who exhausted their eligibility

Looks like we need one more to hit the portal if we're going to get to 15. I could see one of Gary's girls making the move, but don't want to speculate much more than that. This team has the potential to hang around the top 4 in the SEC consistently for the next few years, and Joni will continue to pump in her talent. This is going to be hell of a ride!

Hopefully Bowles and are guards can improve 3 point shooting and we can improve our ball handling with Rogers at the point! Overall we just became a better, more athletics, and deeper team! Let's hope we stay healthy and can gel together! Then we can talk even more than just a tournament berth! It's the summer, let us dream

I know - I don't want to speculate bc I like everyone on this roster! I bet we see a transfer portal athlete over the next day or so...something had to open up for Coulibaly to join. Maybe those hard conversations had to happen before she could announce.

That is a really strong roster, with lots of talent. Now, they all have to learn to work together as a team. I love what Joni and her staff have put together and look forward to seeing what they can do this basketball season.

On paper, we've definitely gotten a lot better. We just have to see how all these pieces will now work together. I don't know if anyone outside of Janiah is a guaranteed starter so it should make for very competitive practices. Hopefully Joni will be able to adjust these athletes to her style of play this summer and during the pre-season.

2 and 3 are interesting. Really curious to see who earns the starting nod. Completely agree with you in Rogers though. No one is displacing her.

I'm not sure what others think, but KayKay might be able to provide some meaningful minutes off the bench this next year. We are deep at guard if people develop and freshmen are as advertised. Probably one of the deepest teams we've had in a long time. What we saw last year looks like a thing of the past. Taylor has impressed me this off-season.

The starters aren't as important as the depth, variety of lineups, and situational versatility this roster has. There are a lot of fun lineups that may include 2 or even 1 starter. As long as Rogers Coulibay or Barker are on the court there's offense on the court. Those three all probably start the 2 and 5 are interesting. I think KK is a great backup PG in our conference, as Malone is a great backup C, and Sahara is a great backup 3. We grabbed two ceiling raisers in Rogers and Coulibaly, a knockdown shooter and a big rim protector w/ pedigree that raise the floor.

This team is ready.

Familiarize yourselves with two of our new pieces. Lightning and Thunder

Endyia Rogers 20-21 Highlights
With aspirations to play in the W, at 5'9" she will have to show scouts she can run the show as a purer Point Guard. I assume she will have this role at A&M but her off-ball instincts make her playable at either guard spot in a litany of lineup with this roster as she is definitely a combo guard at the college level. A blazing shooter she will allow other guards space to operate (something we lacked last year, last in the SEC in 3P%) and is a smart and instinctive cutter. She has a lot of savvy in the PnR on ball and can get to her pull ups and floaters with ease. She has 18 career games with 20+ points and 5 career games with 30+ and 27 career games with 5+ assists. On defense she's great at navigating screens and has great feet on ball to keep ball handlers in front. Her addition should make everyone better on the court and certainly the team. Barker, Rodgers and Coulibaly will likely be at the top of each opponents scouting report opening up opportunities for other players to get favorable matchups.

Aicha Coulibaly LONG video
Similar to Rogers, Coulibaly no doubt has aspirations to make a roster in the most competitive league on the planet, the W. At Auburn playing on a size deficient team she mostly played the four in their best lineups. She'll have to prove she can operate more on the perimeter and hit shots from there as well if she wants to make it. Right now you have an absolute force in the 3-16 ft area, she has a drove of pivots step throughs and turnarounds that make her very difficult to contain. Her speed allows her to get to the rim, her power allows her to finish through contact, her footwork around contact, and her athleticism over it. The 3 point shooting is... a work in progress (30/147 over 3 years) teams still tend to closeout on it and even if they don't she's comfortable with a one or two dribble pull up in the elbow area. Really good rebounder for a wing, especially on the offensive end, she really attacks the boards. The force she plays with allows her to get to the line a lot, she was 9th in the league in total FTA despite missing 6 games throughout the season with a nagging injury, she had even more in her sophomore season. Coach Joni wants to run and Coulibaly sprints to the rim after a turnover or long rebound to setup for easy baskets. Her and Barker could be a devastating duo on the offensive end, her post up game will allow Barker more perimeter opportunities, dropping it off to each other on drives or in high low situations. Coulibaly's passing was abysmal early in her career but she posted a positive AST/TOV her junior year, 2.7 AST per game. She won't have the usage she had at Auburn so expect her to be able to give even more on defense where she uses the same skills that benefit her on offense to dominate. Her 2.2 SPG were 5th in the SEC last season and she did so without fouling at a high rate. She uses her wingspan to poke balls away and really has a knack for being around the ball when there are deflections. The pairing or her and Barker could be dynamic on this side of the ball as well they totaled 2.3 STLs and 1.8 BLKs per game last season. They could play together at the 3 and 4 or 4 and 5 as Coulibaly has the girth to compete in the post on defense. After absolutely bursting onto the scene as a sophomore she plateaued a bit her junior year on a less than talented roster where she was asked to be 1a or 1b every night. As an Aggie, she'll have an experienced point guard and elite forward to play alongside taking pressure off her on both ends of the floor.

More on Hunter and Ware at a later date as college film for them is harder to come by but it's easy to see why Coulibaly and Rogers were must haves for Joni and Co. They both play with the fire and passion that you love on your basketball team with the talent to back it up. They are both VERSATILE players that can be moved around like chess pieces (I'd say Rogers is a knight and Coulibaly is bishop for all my chess nerds out there) and make the other 3 or 4 players on the court better. Gone are the lineups where we wonder where the offense is coming from.

I like what Joni is doing! We have to figure out a way to be competitive, from a recruiting perspective, with Mulk, Vic and Dawn--a tough nut to crack!

But..... progress is indeed being made.

These days, there are at least two ways to catch up to coaches who've had a string of championships.

1) Beat them on the court even with lesser talent. Win a championship or two and recruiting tends to even out.

2) Find patron donors who will really up the NIL for ladies basketball. If you can outbid a few programs and back that up with a few championships, then you will have evened up the scales.

Last season did not give me a lot of warm and fuzzies for Joni, but I am very encouraged by the off-season moves. Hopefully we can stay healthy and have a major turnaround.

Any word on non-conference opponents?

Fair...but it's nice to get South Carolina at home.
The key to these games will be when we get them. Last year's start of SEC play was just brutal.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
My initial reaction/prediction would be 10-6 but we could possibly displace one of the SEC' supposed top 3 of LSU SC and Tenn, we would have to come out of those 5 games at least 3-2 to have a chance at that. Progressing to the top half should be the floor at #7, but I think the run in the SEC tournament got a lot of buy in from the players and that momentum taken into the offseason has us here. These girls gotta gel. but I'm sure we can't wait to cheer them on. 20 win season?
