I believe Schafer is 60 plus a some months. Blair was around 66 when the Aggies won the National Championship. I don't believe age will be a factor. Money will probably be the problem in getting Schafer and another National Championship.

yeah - not to beat a dead horse, but I think we saw this one coming based on how we've played the last few games. good enough to get by those teams, but not texas. texas is a better team than we are right now. it might be different at the end of the season, but for now, not close. we really do not have an inside game (a few good moments) and we do not have an effective point guard which was mentioned earlier. when the shots aren't falling (texas shot the 3 better than we did), we will struggle against the top 10. i do believe GB and staff will learn from this, but do we have the talent to compete for an SEC title and make a run in the tournament...? Unless we are hitting 50% of our 3s when it counts (depaul), no.
it was so amazing to see the support at the game; it was a shame we couldn't pull out the victory.
the poster made the claim that anyone wanting Vic wouldn't be putting up the money. No matter who we hire or whatever the salary is, none of use are really contributing much with our couple hundred dollar season tickets.aggiedrjdub said:
Well, Blair is done after this year so I don't think we have to put anything in lol
Not sure what KBW would accept in terms of payment.
I do believe what ends up happening after Blair will give us an idea of what the ADs expectations of our women's basketball program will be moving forward…..
Are we okay with status quo - an above average program that is competitive and occasionally competes for SEC titles, sweet 16s…or will they swing for the fences and create the expectations that some of the more elite programs have?
I do realize GB made us into a top 20/25 school. Is that good enough or do we want more? And what are they willing to pay/do to go after more?
Just my 2 cents.

It just comes down to whether a top 20 program is "good enough". GB has solidified our position there. I want us to be a perennial top 10 and elite 8 program. In the SEC South Carolina is already there and tu (when they move to the SEC) is not far behind. Look out for LSU in a couple of years!
Interesting topic.aggiedrjdub said:
I remember that, too, and I was super happy for the team. Would you consider our WBB program "elite"?
WBB didn't really have a "covid" year. They played a full schedule. Football had a covid year with fewer games no non-conference, but not WBB.trackaggie76 said:
The COVID year was interesting for sure---we beat South Carolina at home to win the regular season then got beat by Arky in the quarterfinals of the SEC tourney after the double bye. Then ran into Arizona in the NCAA tourney.
I agree with UConn and South Carolina. I think Baylor is in for a rude awakening...They will not remain elite much longer (and I think that begins this year).Gap said:Interesting topic.aggiedrjdub said:

How many team to you want to go with? I'd say Connecticut and South Carolina (next up Baylor).
Stanford won its first championship in 29 years last year (first since 1992).
Tennessee is another program many think of as elite and we have a better program than them. Our program has pulled ahead of Notre Dame too.
Many would say programs like NC State, Maryland, and Louisville are elite, but we are right there with that group as far as accomplishments go and being relevant every year.
Anyone I'm leaving out?
Vic has never had a game that well attended in his time in Austin even with Austin having a metro area of 2.3 million people.BQ92 said:
We had only 7,100 people attend vs our biggest rival. That isn't going to attract someone like Vic.

About a week after Gary announced his retirement, 3 national top 100 recruits with great other options signed with Texas A&M. No hesitation, no flip, no waiting for the Spring signing period. KBW would have led the recruitment for each.
Hmmm

and Coach Blair said he called all 3 recruits BEFORE announcing his retirement & NSD & telling them. Giving them the option to change their minds. They didn't.
