I believe Schafer is 60 plus a some months. Blair was around 66 when the Aggies won the National Championship. I don't believe age will be a factor. Money will probably be the problem in getting Schafer and another National Championship.

No relationship but I have seen what his teams have done against the Aggies and how successful they have been. The man is an Aggie so bring him home so you don't have to lose to him.

I think he's been the perfect fit wherever he's gone if we're being honest.

Unfortunately you can't coach "speed" and tu is simply quicker than we are at the guard positions. I wish we could win one of these big games with a good crowd to convince the fans to come back again! We need that crowd every game.

yeah - not to beat a dead horse, but I think we saw this one coming based on how we've played the last few games. good enough to get by those teams, but not texas. texas is a better team than we are right now. it might be different at the end of the season, but for now, not close. we really do not have an inside game (a few good moments) and we do not have an effective point guard which was mentioned earlier. when the shots aren't falling (texas shot the 3 better than we did), we will struggle against the top 10. i do believe GB and staff will learn from this, but do we have the talent to compete for an SEC title and make a run in the tournament...? Unless we are hitting 50% of our 3s when it counts (depaul), no.

it was so amazing to see the support at the game; it was a shame we couldn't pull out the victory.

AMEN!

Our ball handlers KNOCKED the Tu defenders to the floor 4 times at least ! 8

possible points lost - 8 possible points for Tu! !6 turn around !

Will Vic lovers posting here come up with 3,500,00 or 4 million it would take to get him?

his max contract at Texas 2.1 million, so in theory you wouldn't have to offer 3 or 4 million

so how much are you personally putting in for Blair or KBW contract?

Well, Blair is done after this year so I don't think we have to put anything in lol

Not sure what KBW would accept in terms of payment.

I do believe what ends up happening after Blair will give us an idea of what the ADs expectations of our women's basketball program will be moving forward…..

Are we okay with status quo - an above average program that is competitive and occasionally competes for SEC titles, sweet 16s…or will they swing for the fences and create the expectations that some of the more elite programs have?

I do realize GB made us into a top 20/25 school. Is that good enough or do we want more? And what are they willing to pay/do to go after more?

Just my 2 cents.

And I do realize some people might take offense to the "above average" comment, but that is a positive comment for me. We are a good program. I don't think we are an elite program, but I'm sure some do. And I respect that, too.

the poster made the claim that anyone wanting Vic wouldn't be putting up the money. No matter who we hire or whatever the salary is, none of use are really contributing much with our couple hundred dollar season tickets.

I have no clue what direction the AD goes, although if it's KBW, why not announce it now. I do not think the AD even calls Vic, I don't think the AD is willing to pay that much for non revenue sport. Esp with good chance he's hiring a new softball coach.

It just comes down to whether a top 20 program is "good enough". GB has solidified our position there. I want us to be a perennial top 10 and elite 8 program. In the SEC South Carolina is already there and tu (when they move to the SEC) is not far behind. Look out for LSU in a couple of years!
aggiedrjdub

Yeah - track - that's basically what I mean. I think most can acknowledge that we wouldn't be where we are if not for GB, but I'd certainly like to be a top 10 team year in and out. It is so important to recruit well year in and out. We have decent recruiting classes, but nothing remotely close to Tennessee, UConn, Stanford, South Carolina, etc. I think the portal/NIL has been a good thing for GB because he's able to fill holes with players that aren't happy at their current schools. We really benefitted for a few years from Kelsey Bone wanting to come home bc she was unhappy at South Carolina. Ciera and N'Dea were a force down low for us the last few years. I think I can see that GB is trying to get that type of production out of Roby and Patty. It just hasn't happened yet.

I would be very happy with Vic if I'm being honest. Does he want to leave Texas? I'm not sure. I would absolutely support KBW, but in my mind, that would be a lateral move/hire. I have watched KBW very closely this season to see if she's taking more of leadership role and I haven't really seen a change. To your point, you would think that if she's chosen as head coach in waiting, that she would be stepping up a bit more. However, I still can't see how you hire 2-3 new coaches for 1 year (or why they would come for that). You have to think they knew GB's situation before committing.

One thing I do know, is that I don't know. LOL I want to see this team prove us all wrong this year and go on a run.

I remember all the way back to last year when we were SEC champs and #2 in the nation. We were #4 in the last poll prior to the NCAA tournament being announced.

We ran into a hot team (Arizona) with a great player in the Sweet 16 who then blew out Connecticut in the Final 4 and lost by 1 in the championship game when they had the ball for the final possession going for the win.

We lost 3 player to the WNBA draft and have re-loaded quite well with a new group of key players that is just at the beginning of learning to play together (Roby, Hoppie, Patty, Malone. etc.)
aggiedrjdub
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I remember that, too, and I was super happy for the team. Would you consider our WBB program "elite"?

And it remains to be seen, but Arizona was under ranked all season and I'm not sure they were just the hot team. They were hot but also legit. Looks like it's carried over as now CharlieCreme has them as a 1 seed (early) in the NCAA tournament. Their coach has really changed their program. She's pretty special.

The COVID year was interesting for sure---we beat South Carolina at home to win the regular season then got beat by Arky in the quarterfinals of the SEC tourney after the double bye. Then ran into Arizona in the NCAA tourney.
aggiedrjdub
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Right - as a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament we nearly lost in the first and second rounds. I mean we needed 2 miraculous finishes just to advance. One thing I will say about last years team is they typically always found a way to win no matter what was happening. I think we lost to Georgia in the SEC tournament (not Arkansas), though.

Interesting topic.

How many team to you want to go with? I'd say Connecticut and South Carolina (next up Baylor).

Stanford won its first championship in 29 years last year (first since 1992).

Tennessee is another program many think of as elite and we have a better program than them. Our program has pulled ahead of Notre Dame too.

Many would say programs like NC State, Maryland, and Louisville are elite, but we are right there with that group as far as accomplishments go and being relevant every year.

Anyone I'm leaving out?

yep you are correct---Georgia in the semifinals. I was thinking about the 2020 tourney!

WBB didn't really have a "covid" year. They played a full schedule. Football had a covid year with fewer games no non-conference, but not WBB.

Regarding the SEC tourney loss, it was Georgia not Arkansas. We swept Arkansas last year, home and away. Two really nice clutch, late wins. It was Georgia who beat us in the SEC tournament. Georgia was a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament and we were a 2 seed.

I agree with UConn and South Carolina. I think Baylor is in for a rude awakening...They will not remain elite much longer (and I think that begins this year).

I think Stanford, although it's been years between championships, is certainly considered elite due to the # of titles they've won, how many times they've reached the final 4, how many conference championships they've won, etc.

I disagree that we are a better program than Tennessee; I think they have the edge and I wouldn't even say it's close. They've had about 5-6 average years, but this years team looks tough and they may give SC a run for their money this year.

I would probably put us below Maryland and Louisville (currently). NC State has 2-3 incredible players, but I don't know about them enough to have an opinion on their status.

Duke seems to be turning it around. LSU will be good for years and years to come.

How many conference championships have we won? 2? And one or two conference tournaments? We are always the 2nd or 3rd best team in our own conference. I would really like to be in South Carolina's position, tbh.

Right I called it the COVID year because hardly any fans were there and they took away my seats in Reed for social distancing.

I still don't understand why the refs are wearing masks now!

I have been told GB makes 1.2 million per year

I do not think KBW will be our next head coach. I think AD will hire a proven winner
head coach from another program.as he did in baseball.
I think the ship has sailed on Vic.

About a week after Gary announced his retirement, 3 national top 100 recruits with great other options signed with Texas A&M. No hesitation, no flip, no waiting for the Spring signing period. KBW would have led the recruitment for each.

Hmmm

We had only 7,100 people attend vs our biggest rival. That isn't going to attract someone like Vic.

We have been a top 15 program for more than 15 years, so it's not about the winning.

tu scored 32 off of turnovers with only 8 fast break points and 4 steals.

We had zero points off of their 7 turnovers

Vic has never had a game that well attended in his time in Austin even with Austin having a metro area of 2.3 million people.

Continue winning conference championships, recruit well, make deep runs in the ncaa tournament and attendance will take care of itself.

This is why I'm lead to believe it's KBW. Plus the hiring of 2 new coaches that had to have known the situation. If it's not her, then they already know who it is and have been promised that they are safe and the new coach had input on the hires.

Exactly. And the the players had coaches from other schools calling them too asking them to wait and evaluate later. And we went 3 for 3.

I'm curious - are any of the recruits point guards? Do we have any bigs lined up? I'm genuinely asking. I guess I can look it up but I'm just curious what you guys know about them.
